Is Randy Travis Falling Apart: Police Are Looking For Him Again

A truck registered to country singer Randy Travis has been found tipped over and abandoned in a Texas field.

The Dallas Morning News reports the truck was found Saturday morning in a field behind a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Frisco.

Police say they are investigating but haven’t yet been able to talk to Travis.

Travis’ lawyer, Larry Friedman, says a ranch hand was using the truck and Travis will follow up to find out how it ended up in the field. Friedman says Travis rarely uses the truck himself.

The truck was found less than two days after Plano police said they cited Travis for simple assault related to an argument in a church parking lot.

Travis has been arrested twice this year on alcohol-related charges.

So what is going on with Travis’ life that has him developing a rap sheet this late in his career? It’s quite puzzling as to why, out of the blue, Travis is socializing with sordid grubby acquaintances that have him regularly in contact with law enforcement. Now I’m not accusing the singer of nefarious activities, but when you look at his credentials: He’s sold more than 20 million records, won seven Grammy Awards, possesses 10 Academy of Country Music statuettes, awarded 10 American Music Awards and seven Music City News awards, has five Country Music Association honors and eight Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association; this guy’s a country legend who has apparently lost his footing. And I do mean lost his footing if you take into account his recent reckless behavior.

Just this week the 53-year-old “Too Gone Too Long” singer was cited by Plano Police for simple assault after stumbling into a heated argument between his girlfriend, Mary Beougher, and her estranged husband outside the Prestonwood Baptist Church in suburban Dallas. This less than two weeks after the country singer was arrested after being found naked, drunk and passed out in the middle of a street, with his 1998 Trans Am in a nearby ditch.

Police responded to a call early Friday morning that two men were fighting in a church parking lot, the man Travis was fighting was the estranged husband of his current girlfriend.

The confrontation was not physical and did not involve alcohol, despite an earlier report to the contrary, Travis’ lawyer told the Dallas Morning News..

Plano Police Officer David Tilley says an estranged married couple was involved in a verbal argument in the church parking lot, when Travis stepped in.

Tilley says Travis, who apparently knew the woman, reportedly got physical with the husband.

The responding officer reports that alcohol use was suspected, but Tilley says there is no evidence that any of the parties involved were intoxicated.
The arrest report stated that Travis’ clothing was torn and his eyes were bloodshot.

Travis was cited for simple assault, a Class C misdemeanor, that officials equate with a traffic ticket. Travis was not arrested in relation to the altercation.

Another woman, Cavanaugh Beoughner, was also cited for simple assault.

No one was injured in the incident.

Although various media outlets are reporting Travis was hospitalized after the incident, Plano Police say Travis was not transported in an official capacity by their department or the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.

This would be Travis’ third brush with the law this year, as he was also busted for public intoxication in February, apparently drunk in his parked car in a different church parking lot.

Plus, the time Travis was found naked in the street, he was also booked on a felony retaliation and obstruction charge after threatening to kill the cops who were arresting him.

After his February arrest, he apologized to his fans. “I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl,” Travis said. “I’m committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions.”

Travis has been involved in messy court proceedings with his ex-wife. Travis was divorced from Elizabeth Travis in 2010 after 19 years of marriage.

Earlier this year, Elizabeth Travis, who had been his manager for more than three decades, filed a lawsuit claiming that Randy Travis made it impossible for her to do her job and terminated her management contract without proper notice. She said her ex-husband sent several men, including an armed guard, to clean out her offices.

Randy Travis countersued in May, accusing his ex-wife of divulging confidential information about him in order to damage his reputation and career. The court documents don’t say what information Elizabeth Travis is alleged to have betrayed.

The proper thing to do is to reach out to Travis, and perhaps get his side of the story. Keep your fingers crossed that he doesn’t get himself into anymore hot water before we’re able to reach him.
