For the most part, Justin Bieber has kept himself away from controversy through the entire month of August, and if it were not for an August 31, 2012 bump in with California Highway Patrol, the Bieber would have had a perfect record.Allegedly, Bieber avoided a car collision on Friday afternoon after two paparazzi crashed chasing the teen idol in Los Angeles.
A California Highway Patrol officer reportedly spotted a Nissan “aggressively” following Bieber and stopped him, hoping to deter the chasing car. The 18-year-old pop star was stopped for tinted windows in his Fisker Karma sports car. According to TMZ, two photographers rushed to scene, losing control of their vehicles and smashing into one another on heavily-trafficked Ventura Boulevard.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
TMZ reports the Nissan said to have been following Bieber ‘aggressively’ was being driven by his security detail.
The paparazzi are said to have arrived at the scene just as the CHP officer was speaking to the teen star to record the events on camera.
According to the website, no one was cited.
The incident was the star’s latest dangerous run-in with the paparazzi – and the law. The crooner was pulled over last month and slapped with a speeding ticket for driving at 80 mph in his $100,000 chrome-plated car; and in May he made headlines for allegedly ‘roughing up’ a photographer.
Bieber was stopped in July on the 101 Freeway, near Calabasas, as he tried to get away from photographers who were pursuing him.
Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine – a former motor officer – called the police after witnessing Justin’s driving and said he believed the star was doing more than 100mph.
He told TMZ: ‘Bieber was driving like a maniac. He was weaving in and out of traffic. There was hardly any space between cars as he weaved from lane to lane. “If I was on patrol, I would have arrested him for reckless driving. I was going 60 and he drove by me like he was in a rocket ship. He was a maniac.”
Mr Zine added the paparazzi in pursuit of the star were also driving recklessly.
He allegedly was one of ten people to report the teen to authorities after seeing his driving, according to TMZ.
Justin was reportedly issued a speeding ticket for breaking the speed limit by driving at 80mph.
One of the freelance paparazzo allegedly chasing him, Paul Raef, is facing charges of following another vehicle too closely with intent to photograph for commercial gain, the first such case filed under Los Angeles’ new paparazzi law.
If convicted, Raef faces up to a year in jail and fines of up to $3,500.
Raef’s attorney has said his client is innocent and plans to plead not guilty and fight the charges.
The teen idol was also pulled over in his other car – a black Cadillac CTS-V Coupe customized to look like the Bat-mobile last year, but was let off with a warning; and he narrowly escaped a fine in December after being stopped for making an unsafe left turn at a Los Angeles intersection.
The singer’s Fisker Karma is a hybrid powered sports car made in Finland, worth $100,000.
The bright silver chrome plated vehicle has a top speed of 125mph and can go from zero to 60 in 6.3 seconds.
The car was bought for him as a present for his 18th birthday earlier this year, and presented to him by his manager, Scooter Braun, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Justin meanwhile doesn’t seem to be letting his legal woes distract him from his music – or having some fun.
The star, who is dating singer/actress Selena Gomez, posted a picture of his “new tattoo” – a crown emblazoned on his upper right chest – on Twitter on Friday.
The singer, who grimaced in the shirtless shot, wrote: “new tattoo it’s a crown if you couldn’t tell.”
