Arnold Schwarzenegger’s climb to the top is now detailed in a book written by the former governor. “Total Recall,” catalogues Schwarzenegger’s mastery in three professions: bodybuilding, acting and politics. He is a man of drive, endurance, almost inhuman persistence, but the chapter about the affair, called “The Secret,” has drawn most of the interest. It’s perhaps why his book will be an enormous success. The memoirs reveal, Schwarzenegger had sex with his housekeeper while his wife, Maria Shriver was on vacation with the kids.
In a televised promo advertising Schwarzenegger’s new book the actor declares: “If my life was a movie no-one would believe it.” Surely parts of it Schwarzenegger wished were only a movie; especially details surrounding the controversial fathering of a love child with his housekeeper. In the explosive tell-all book, ”Total Recall,”
Schwarzenegger says he “wanted” for years to believe that the boy, who was born in 1997, was not his. But as he grew up the physical resemblance became so strong “I realized there was little doubt that he was my son.”
A copy of the actors much anticipated book, “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story,” details the infidelity that ruined his marriage — revealing his wife confronted him about his love child in couples counseling.
“The Terminator” actor writes that Maria Shriver waited until a day after he left the California governor’s office in 2011 to confirm her long-held suspicion that he was a cheater.
“The minute we sat down, the therapist turned to me and said, ‘Maria wanted to come here today and to ask about a child — whether you fathered a child with your housekeeper Mildred,’ ” Schwarzenegger writes in “Total Recall.”
The 65-year-old action-movie star writes that he initially thought the counseling session was to help him and his wife cope with their transition from public to private life. But once faced with his indiscretion, he came clean. “I told the therapist, ‘It’s true,’ ” Schwarzenegger recounts in the memoir, set to hit bookstores on Oct. 1.
A copy of the book in which Schwarzenegger candidly tells of his journey from a rural town in Austria to becoming a Mr. Universe bodybuilder, Hollywood superstar and powerful politician, has been obtained by the New York Daily News.
According to the newspaper Schwarzenegger wrote that he should have told his wife the secret a long time ago but “instead of doing the right thing I’d just put the truth in a mental compartment and locked it up where I didn’t deal with it every day.”
According to the newspaper the former Mr Universe recounts in the book that his illegitimate son was conceived in the guesthouse of his California mansion while his wife was on holiday.
At the time he was making the film “Batman & Robin,” in which he starred as Mr Freeze.
He blamed his own arrogance in believing “you’ll get way with ignoring the rules” for what happened.
After realizing the boy was his he kept the housekeeper in her job to “control the situation,” the newspaper reported. Miss Shriver did ask him about the parentage of the child years ago but he denied it at that time.
While he was Governor the housekeeper’s husband left her and Schwarzenegger began financially supporting her and the child.
He reportedly reasoned that this was politically acceptable because he had not campaigned on family values.
Schwarzenegger wrote: “I blocked out the fact that as a husband and father, as a man with a family and wife, I was letting people down.”
His explanation of the scandal comes at the end of a 624-page tome which covers his journey from Austria to the United States and his achievements in bodybuilding, Hollywood and politics.
It is unclear whether Miss Shriver, with whom his divorce is not yet finalized, was given details of the book in advance.
The book, which is published on Oct 1, is part of an effort to rehabilitate Schwarzenegger’s image.
This week sees the launch of the Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy, a think tank at the University of Southern California.
Its $20 million in funding will come from money Schwarzenegger raised or donated, and he will have the title Downey Professor of State and Global Policy.
He will also be appearing in a series of forthcoming Hollywood films, including his first leading role in a decade as a sheriff in “The Last Stand.”
The 624 page book is released in October, and tells the story of Arnie’s rise from bodybuilding champion to Hollywood action icon and politician.
He divulges that he had sex with Baena in 1996 in the guesthouse of his Pacific Palisades, Calif., mansion while Shriver was away on vacation with their kids and he was stuck in Hollywood working on the flick “Batman & Robin.”
