The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Office of Internal Oversight has
released three new use of deadly force summaries on the Department website. These
internal reports correspond to the release of findings by the District Attorney’s Office on
August 20, 2012. In the absence of a Coroner’s inquest, the release of LVMPD’s
reports, coupled with the publishing of the District Attorney’s findings on backlogged
inquest cases provides the public with a panoramic view of each of these incidents.
LVMPD is releasing two documents associated with each finding. The Force
Investigative Team (FIT) Report details the evidence gathered by homicide detectives
on each incident. The Office of Internal Oversight Review details any recommended
corrective actions taken by LVMPD. The posting of these reports is part of LVMPD’s
ongoing effort to provide transparency and accountability regarding use of deadly force
cases which have resulted in the death of an individual.
