49ers Complete Comeback, Going to Super Bowl XVLII

One half of  the Harbaugh equation is complete. The San Fransico 49ers once down 17-0  comeback to win the NFC Championship 28-24.  This will be the 49ers sixth Super Bowl appearance, they are 5-0 in the previous five they have appeared in.

Colin Kaepernick was not explosive, but he was cool and calm. He didn’t run all over the Falcons defense as he did the Packers but he did enough to get the victory, he passed for 233 yards and one touchdown. The 49ers ran a lot of read options which the Falcons stayed home on defense and limited Kaepernick. The problem was Frank Gore and LaMichael James ate them up, scoring three touchdowns between them.

Matt Ryan led the Falcons to a 17-0 lead mid way through the second quarter.  The only thing that slowed down the falcons in the first 20 minutes of this games has a security guard that got taken down by Julio Jones.  The Falcons led 24-14 at halftime, only to watch the 49ers take a 28-24 lead with 8:23 left in the game. The 49ers had a chance to go up earlier but a Michael Crabtree fumble on the 1 yard line ended that drive. It didn’t matter though as the 49ers and Kaepernick kept their cool and went to work, stopping the Falcons on offense and fooling them on defense with the read option. Now we what and see if older brother John will join little brother Jim in New Orleans. By Steve Kish
