King Felix is now a wealth(ier) king. Felix Hernandez signed the richest pitching contract in MLB history early Thursday morning. The deal is for seven years and $175 million.
Hernandez was scheduled to make a puny $19.5 million this season and only $20 million in 2014. Thankfully for him his new contract starts this this and his salary gets bumped to an average of $25 million per season.
Hernandez, 26, is the 2010 AL Cy Young winner, a three time All-Star and owner of a perfect game. He has a career mark of 98-76 with a 3.22 ERA. Hernandez has spent all of his eight year career with the Mariners. By Steve Kish
