On March 9, 2013 at approximately 9:50 p.m., a critical injury Motorcycle / Auto / Auto collision occurred on Charleston Boulevard east of AppleDrive. Evidence atthe scene and witness statements indicate a 2003Honda Civic was westbound on Charleston Boulevard when a collision occurred between an SUV and a double street lamp pole fixed in the centermedian. The streetlamp pole collapsed into the roadway and obstructed two (2) of the three (3) westbound travel lanes of Charleston Boulevard. The operator ofthe 2003Honda Civic positioned
his vehicle acrossthe left and center westbound lanes of Charleston Boulevard in front ofthe streetlamp post lying in the roadway. The operator ofthe 2003Honda Civic then exited his vehicle to direct traffic around the obstruction into the right westbound travel lane. A 2007Honda CBR 600 was westbound on Charleston Boulevard in the centerlane at a high rate ofspeed. The front ofthe 2007Honda CBR 600 struck the rightside of the unoccupied 2003Honda Civic. Themotorcycle rider was ejected and continued to slide westbound on the asphalt. Themotorcycle riderthen struck the leftside of a 2004Hyundai Sonata that wastraveling westbound in the righttravel lane. Themotorcycle riderseparated from the 2004Hyundai Sonata and continued to slide on the asphalt coming to restin the center westbound travel lane of Charleston Boulevard. The motorcycle rider was transported toUMC Trauma by ambulance and is currently in critical condition. The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD AccidentInvestigation Section.
