The Red Sox Make it a Yawner
With the addition of key players in the off season, the Toronto Blue Jays were picked by many “experts” to win the AL East. Today they were far from the best in their division.
The visiting Boston Red Sox pummeled the Jays 13-0. Will Middlebrooks launched a career-high three homers and Jon Lester tossed seven strong innings. Mike Napoli also added four RBIs.
Toronto pitcher R.A. Dickey gave up Middlebrooks first two home runs and allowed 8 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. He may have wished he’d stayed in the National League where he was the Cy Young award winner last year.
The Red Sox wasted no time in getting to Dickey in the first inning. They scored 5 runs, including Middlebrooks’ first “dinger” which scored two.
Boston scored again in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th innings while Lester allowed only 5 hits, and struck out 6.
It’s a long season, but on everyone’s mind will be that same old question; “Can money buy championships?”
