Wesley Snipes Released from Pennsylvania Prison
Wesley Snipes has been released from the Pennsylvania prison where he was serving a sentence after being convicted on tax charges in February 2010. Snipes, the actor famous for the Blade trilogy, was serving a three-year sentence.
The 50-year-old actor will spend the next four months under house arrest. Snipes has been released to a supervised residential facility in New York, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
“In June 2011, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of his sentence, which he had argued was too harsh for a misdemeanor conviction.” (cnn.com)
Snipes had been convicted of willfully failing to file tax returns for 1999-01. However, he the jury failed to convict him of the more serious charges of tax fraud and conspiracy. Prosecutors had argued that he had earned “more than $38 million between 1999 and 2006 but failed to file income tax returns or pay
any taxes during that time.” (yahoo.com)
