Around 3am, two off-duty Atlanta Police Officers in full uniform working at club Opera in midtown were alerted to a large group fight on 13th St. just off Crescent Ave. The officers checked 13th St. and discovered a large group of individuals disputing in a parking lot. One of those individuals brandished a handgun. Witnesses confirmed that the officers gave that individual several verbal commands to drop the weapon. The individual, however, did not comply and turned on the officers. Rounds were fired and the subject was struck at least one time. A handgun was recovered at the scene and the subject was transported to Grady Hospital in critical condition. The officers were not injured and have been temporarily placed on administrative leave which is standard for any officer involved in a shooting. The Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
