Esteban J. Smith, 23, was killed by police Monday, after he allegedly went on a shooting spree in Concho County, Texas.  Smith was a marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

His rampage began about 4:30 Sunday morning.  His first target was in Eden, Texas.  From his pickup, he fired at a woman in her vehicle, wounding her.  His next victims were sitting in their car at a convenience store in Brady.  He wounded both of them.  He reversed his direction, went back to Eden, and shot another woman in her vehicle, who was treated and released at the local hospital.  All these events happened by 5:30 in the morning.  None of the four were seriously injured.

Just after six, police responded to a ‘shots fired call’ in Eola.  When they arrived they found Alicia Torres, 42, shot to death in her car.  Smith had  remained in the area.

Texas Highway Patrol Officers, and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden arrived.  They engaged in a shootout with Smith, who was killed in the firefight.

Police found “an assault rifle, a handgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition” at the scene.

In another incident, in which Smith is believed to have been involved, a woman’s body was found in Sunset Inn motel in Jacksonville, South Carolina.

There is no information as to what might be Smith’s motive for the drive-by shootings.
