Morgan Freeman (75) proved that even God–well, an actor who has played God in movies — took a catnap during a recent interview with the Fox affiliate, Seatle’s O13 News Thursday morning, May 23, proving that even though he is an excellent actor, he is still human.
He later joked about the incident, saying: “I wasn’t actually sleeping. I’m a beta tester for Google Eyelids. I was merely updating my Facebook page.”
Freeman has received Academy Award nominations for his performances in “Street Smart, ” “Driving Miss Daisy,” “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Invictus.” He won in 2005 for Million Dollar Baby.
Freeman initially gained recognition and fame for his roles on “Another World,” and “The Electric Company.” He was in Seattle, Washington, to promote his new movie “Now You See Me.”
During the interview, the affiliate news station was showing some scenes from the film. When they cut back to show what was happening during the interview, the live airing caught Morgan Freeman while resting his head on his chest, in the midst of his catnap.
In the video that follows, you can see that at first, he appears to have a difficult time staying awake. Then, while his co-star Michael Caine (80) was talking about magic tricks — which are a central element of the plot — Morgan closes his eyes for awhile, and his head finally nods forward.
By the end of the interview, the Academy Award-nominated actor Freeman had shaken off his previous drowsiness, and managed to regain his usual stoic and refined demeanor.
Upon being asked by one of the show’s two co-anchors, Bill Wixey, a tip about how to be a good narrator, Freeman responded by saying: “I think probably just being a good reader. That’s all, not much more than that. Having a clear voice [too].”
On KIRO Radio’s “Dori Monson Show”after the video went viral and people started talking about it around the water cooler, Wixey stated: “It was really interesting to look at in retrospect and because I was focused on what Caine was saying I didn’t notice any of this.”
“I felt bad actually afterwards because I asked Morgan a question towards the end of the interview and woke him from his nap,” he said with laugh. “Had I noticed it, it may have just popped into my mind to say, hey Morgan, are you OK over there buddy?”
Wixey anchors the program with Kaci Aitchison.
It’s easy to understand why Freeman was exhausted. He had to wake up early that morning after having spent the previous night at the New York premiere of the Mark Ruffalo and Jesse Eisenberg-starring movie the night before.
“Now You See Me,” which is about an FBI agent and a detective who track down a group of people who are illusionists as well as being bank robbers. They give people in their audience money by robbing banks.
