“Mike & Molly” is a popular mainstay of CBS, starring Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell. It’s a comedy about a couple who fall in love after meeting at an over-eaters support group.
The network made the decision to delay the airing of this episode in due to the devastation that has been wrought by the recent Oklahoma tornadoes, and the tornadoes and hail that have ravage other Midwest states, like Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska.
According to a spokesperson from CBS, the reason for the yanking of the finale is because of the similarities that exist between its plot and the reality of the events which have transpired due to the recent heavy tornado activity the Midwest has experienced.
“Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are pre-empting tonight’s season finale of ‘Mike & Molly,’ which has a related story line,” the CBS spokesperson said.
The plot of the season finale, “Windy City,” involves Mike and Carl getting stuck working at the Renaissance Faire after their boss, Patrick, gets dumped by Mike’s mother.
Later, as a tornado descends on Chicago, Mike and Molly each confess important news to each other.
Instead of Monday’s “Mike & Molly” season finale episode, repeat show from earlier in the season will replace it.
CBS said the season finale will be “broadcast at an appropriate date.”
“Mike & Milly” was recently renewed by CBS for a 22-episode Season 4, but the network has so far not scheduled it for the fall.
Oklahoma, Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska were the scenes of heavy storms, hail, and tornado activity this past weekend, and a huge tornado devastated the Oklahoma city of Moore on Monday.
The massive tornado was, according to reports on CNN from storm chasers, “two miles wide or more.” It ripped up two elementary schools and a hospital, and left a trail of destroyed houses, schools, fires, and twisted wreckage in its wake.
Dozens of fatalities were reported on Monday when the tornado hit the Oklahoma City suburbs.
