U.S.- Flight Heading to New York's JFK Rerouted After Bomb Threat

A flight from Cairo destined for New York’s John F. Kennedy airport was rerouted after a passenger found a letter in the lavatory threatening to blow up the plane.

Flight 985 had approximately 300 passengers onboard when it was redirected to Glasglow’s Prestwick Airport on Saturday, Tawfig Assi, Chairman of EgyptAir said.

According to Britian’s Ministry of Defense, fighter jets were dispatched to guide the plane to Glasgow airport.

Police in Glasglow confirmed that they responded to a call but refused to give any detail.

Assi stated that the flight is now being checked by a technical team that includes bomb experts

Passengers’ were asked to exit the flight, while authorities conducted background checks.
