Despite a little “accidental” mis-information on Saturday by Mike Heller, Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger finally got married in an intimate ceremony of around 50 guests at a French Castle on Monday. Just as they’d planned it.
Mike Heller was so excited about the upcoming Canadian musical union that he tweeted on Saturday: “I’m in south of France about to see my little Rok star #avril get married I am so happy to be part of this special celebration.”
In his haste to tweet his joy to the world, Heller who is the CEO of the talent company that represents Avril Lavigne, made it sound as though the singer and her Nickelback frontman fiance were getting hitched on Saturday. But that was actually when the couple were starting their wedding celebration early!
The pair actually exchanged vows on Monday in Mandelieu, France, according to multiple sources who confirmed the information to Us Weekly and People. Around 50 guests were in attendance at Chateau La Napoule, which is a restored French castle, on July 1. So Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger did have an intimate ceremony as publicised. Nice touch.
The Canadian couple timed their wedding to fall on Canada Day, which is also on JUly 1. Last fall, Chad Kroeger talked about the significance of the July date in an interview with People. He said, “We met while recording music in March. But we started dating July 1, so I’ll let the math speak for itself there. We think it’s very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day. We can’t wait to start our life together. We’re very happy.”
The 37-year-old Nickelback frontman proposed to 27 year-old Avril on August 8 with a 14-carat diamond engagement ring after they’d only been dating for six months. Avril told Ryan Seacrest in an interview that Chad was very romantic in the area of proposing.
She said, “I had been making this scrapbook of my time in the studio. I walk over and he had taken a photo of himself holding the ring box and put the Polariod in my scrapbook.” Lavigne then told Seacrest, “It was really romantic and kind of made sense.”
A lot of celebrity sites actually reported that Lavigne and Kroeger got married on Saturday, but the two were having a party in Cannes party on June 29 and that was their way of “kicking off” the wedding ceremony on Monday. It was the combination of Heller’s tweet and the party that confused everyone.
One website reported, correctly, that the young lovers were having a “rehearsal” dinner in Cannes as a prelude to the actual event. E! was one of the few sites to catch on to the inadvertent “mis-information” from Heller.
Apart from the sources who’ve reported that Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger got married in an intimate ceremony in a French castle on Monday, no word has come from either singers camps or reps about the wedding. Regardless of the lack of “formal” confirmation from either camp, this will be Avril’s second marriage and Chad’s first. Good luck you two!
