The Big Bang Theory cast made an appearance at a Comic-Con 2013 panel yesterday! Well, two members of the cast, anyway, Johnny Galecki (Leonard) and Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) were there. I would have mentioned this yesterday, as The Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite TV shows of all time; but, it was a surprise to everyone there, even the fans of the show at Comic-Con, who thought they were attending a special “Writers’ Room” conversation.
No big stars from the CBS hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory had been scheduled to be there, but that didn’t stop Rauch and Galecki from showing up to surprise their fans!
The “Writers’ Room” conversation panel was moderated by Melissa Rauch. This would have probably been cool enough for the fans there, who hadn’t expected any of the cast to be in attendance.
Johnny Gallecki did her one better, though, by making a surprise appearance as a fan waiting in line to ask a question — a fan in costume, dressed up in Princess Leia’s bounty hunter disguise from the Star Wars sequel Return of the Jedi.
Galecki told the crowd: “I just couldn’t stay away.” How cool is that? Continuing, Galecki said to the fans of The Big Bang Theory:
I know everyone says they have the best fans in the world, but they’re misleading you, because this show has the best fans in the world. The fact that we gather here in July before the show goes back into full swing production in August gives us the shot in the arm we need.”
Yet a further surprise for the fans gathered there was a video appearance by renowned author/physicist Stephen Hawking. Hawking has guest-starred on the show previously. He had recorded a special video message to introduce the panel.
Hawking mentioned how he liked to play Words with Friends with Sheldon (Jim Parsons) of The Big Bang Theory. He said:
When I’m not playing Words , I like to think about the universe. Many people find the universe confusing. It’s not.”
Speaking from his home in Cambridge, England, Hawking then said — through a voice synthesizer — that he could explain the “Big Bang Theory.” Instead of talking about the beginning of the universe, Hawking recited the first 17 words of the theme song for The Big Bang Theory which is sung by The Bare Naked Ladies.

Also appearing at the panel were the expected guests, co-creator Bill Prady and showrunner Steve Molaro. They both said what fans can expect to see in season seven, including more of Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy’s (Mayim Bialik) hilariously odd relationship as boyfriend/girlfriend.
Molaro, when asked if they will finally consummate their relationship, stated, “It’s a possibility…Amy will continue trying to get her way.”
Also, when the series returns on September 26 (mark your calendars) fans will see Amy and Bernadette (Rauch) go on a trip together and will see Leonard on the research ship with Hawking.
Two members of the cast of The Big Bang Theory appearing at Comic-Con was, for me and other fans of the series, one of the biggest highlights of the event so far. You can see Stephen Hawking’s video below and a video highlighting some of season 6’s funniest moments!
