Near the end of the afternoon of Friday, the NSA.gov website was unable to be accessed by internet users. On Twitter, a number of members identifying with the hacktivist group Anonymous began suggesting that the outage was part of a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the site’s servers. DDoS attacks have been illegal in the U.S. since the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act was enacted in 1986.
The reality of an intentional attack being the cause, however, has yet to be confirmed by the NSA itself.
