Selena Gomez has decided to cancel her Star Dance tour in Australia and Asia, stating that she needs some personal time. It is an excuse that is not used often when it comes to stars cancelling world tours, which has led to the question of a breakdown. According to a close source that is not the case.
Gomez released a statement shortly after the announcement of the 13 dates axed. She apologized to her fans, regretting that she was disappointing them. However, the former Disney star has spent many years focusing on her work and she needs to spend some time looking after herself. The aim is to be a better person for her fans.
A close source told E! that the 21-year-old has simply “hit a wall” after constantly working for the past few years. After spending six months touring, the Wizards of Waverly Place star wants to spend time with her family and friends. She needs a break to catch her breath and avoid any mental issues.
The Stars Dance tour was supposed to reach Japan on January 16, and would then tour around China, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore, before moving onto Australia. Five dates were set in February for Down Under starting on February 1 and ending in Melbourne on February 8. It would have been an intensive schedule for the star, and she made the decision after realizing that it was all just too much.
Reps of Gomez announced on Friday that she would cancel the whole leg of the tour for personal time.
Fans would be forgiven for believing that a breakdown could be the reason after the star cursed before storming of the stage earlier this month. The singer’s audio malfunctioned and one witness stated that it looked like Gomez was lip-synching.
The news comes after the announcement of her likeness being portrayed in a new waxwork at Madam Tussauds in Hollywood. This is not the first time she has had her likeness portrayed in wax. She has already been in various other Madam Tussauds locations, but this is the first time it has been surrounded by so many other A-list celebrities in Hollywood, including ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
Locations in Washington D.C. and New York had younger versions of the former Disney star from when she was in the TV show Wizards of Waverly Place, where she found fame.
The waxwork museum has announced that there will be 12 additions in 2014. No names have been mentioned but another Disney star and friend of Gomez, Demi Lovato, has been speculated to be one of them.
Gomez was not there for the unveiling of her new waxwork.
All those disappointed by the canceled tour will receive refunds, The Hot Hits confirmed. However, Live Nation has not yet mentioned its cancellation policy.
Many fans will be disappointed by the news. However, wanting personal time is not a common reason for top stars to cancel tours, including Gomez. Her reps have not confirmed whether she will add the dates later in the year when she is feeling better.
