Tragic news is stemming from California; a Bay Area Transit Rapid Transit (BART) police officer reportedly, accidentally shot and killed a fellow police officer Tuesday. Not only is the accident tragic, but it marks the first fatality of any officer in the 40-year history of the organization.

An investigation has been launched into the shooting. Reports state the officers were responding to a follow-up regarding a crime that had been committed on a BART property. The identity of the officers have been withheld, pending the outcome of the investigation. BART Police Chief Kenton Rainey stated initial reports indicated it may had been a result of a  possible accident, but cannot fully comment until the investigation concludes.

The details leading up to the shooting has not been released at this time. The shooting was reported to take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday. A California BART police officer shot and killed a fellow police officer in a tragic accident. As more details release, this report will be updated.
