China has convicted eminent human rights activists Xu Zhiyong for actions against the Chinese government, sentencing him to four years behind bars.
Arrested in Jul 2013, Xu Zhiyong’s trial, which began on Wednesday, offered an unfavorable outcome for many civil rights activists supporting Zhiyong. They have also questioned the credibility of pledges made by President Xi Jinping to fight against corruption.
Zhiyong was originally arrested for crowd gathering to create public disorder in his campaigning against child rights’ violations and also against the ever-increasing corruption.
