It’s official, Elizabeth Banks, producer, actress, and comedian from The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Hunger Games, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and many, many more memorable films, will be directing the sequel to the movie version of a college a cappella group, entitled Pitch Perfect 2. That’s right, the Pitch Perfect crew will be back singing more mystifying medleys and dynamically dueling, and of course, all while making the audience laugh.

With a loaded cast including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin, Ben Platt, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Alexis Knapp, and many other fresh faces, Pitch Perfect tells the story of an all-girl singing group, the Bellas, at the fictional Barden University. Beca, a freshman, is recruited for the Bellas when she is heard singing in the shower by one of the group’s leaders. Beca, played by Anna Kendrick, adds the much-needed reality to this female congregation if they are going to stand a chance against the all-male group, The Treblemakers, in an on-campus competition, and then in external competitions.

Elizabeth Banks played a major role in the production of Pitch Perfect which included playing the character, Gail, the nutty co-announcer along side John Michael Higgins, who, together, commentated  the vocal competitions. Although Jason Moore directed the original, Elizabeth Banks has signed on to direct the sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, set for release next year. Banks, Max Handelman, and their Brownstone Productions team will produce the film, along with Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, and their team at Good Circle Films.

With a story line yet to be released, Pitch Perfect fans can share in the excitement that is now buzzing around the film’s sequel. Donna Langley, the chairman of Universal Pictures, expressed enthusiasm about Elizabeth Banks’ involvement in Pitch Perfect and now in Pitch Pefect 2, by saying that Banks brings a high level of energy and experience to the process. The actress’ directorial debut will bring even more brilliance to the film, in addition to her acting, producing, and energizing presence.

According to the Huffington Post, Elizabeth Banks will be reappearing in the role of Gail, Anna Kendrick will once again take on the role of Beca, and Rebel Wilson is signed on to revive the outrageous part of Fat Amy. Who can forget Fat Amy getting hit by a thrown burrito at the gas station and her line, “I’ve been shot!” as she convincingly collapses to the ground?

Skylar Astin, who plays Jesse, says that if everything comes together to create the sequel, he will not be “the one to hold it back.” Great news for Pitch Perfect fans everywhere who want to see if things will work out between Beca and Jesse, what antics Fat Amy will attempt, and what songs can be mashed together and performed by the Bellas.

Pitch Perfect fans will have another chance to harmonize with their favorite characters sometime in 2015. Kay Cannon, the writer of the first screenplay, who is also known for 30 Rock and New Girl, is writing the sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, which Universal Studios is proud to announce that Elizabeth Banks will direct, produce, and star in. So, warm up those vocal chords, catch up on the original, and get ready to be pitch-slapped.
