Hilary Duff’s Friendly Split From Husband Mike Comrie

Breaking up news is often hard to accept from fans especially if a person’s marriage seemed like a fairytale. Childhood actress Hilary Duff announced her split from former hockey player and husband Mike Comrie exclusively to E! on Friday, Jan. 10. A rep for Duff told Us Weekly, the couple decided to split amicably. “They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time.” One can ask, what happened to this seemingly normal “entertainment” couple? The 26-year-old singer-actress and former NHL player, 33 did not appear to be having any problems according to recent PDA photos. The most recent photo was taken on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The couple was all smiles playing with their son 22-month old son Luca at a Los Angeles park.

Duff and Comrie tied the knot August 2010 and seemed the picture of happiness by Hollywood standards. Media photos showed the happy couple always spending time together. They recently took son Luca to Disneyland this past December. Duff even shared photos of her and Comrie bringing in the New Year appearing to be a content duo. Celebrity couples who decide to split usually face an onset of speculation. Reading about celebrity breakups is nothing new but there are a few that catch people off guard.

In the case of Duff and Comrie’s split, the couple simply drifted apart. Take into account that Duff was 23 when they married and soon after had her son. Age is not a determining factor for marriage or children, but when people live in a celebrity world, it can make the simple things complicated. Anytime fans hear of breakup news it seems drama should be just around the corner. This split, maybe not so, if there were no indications that anything was going wrong in the marriage. It also looks as if the split may not have much “oohing and aahing,” to chatter over but it is still too early to know for sure.

There is usual signs that a couple is going down “splitsville” such as the bare ring finger or solo walks down the red carpet. The scrutiny of it all can make some celebrities dread announcing their split. It does seem redundant when hearing that a couple will remain the best of friends and that their children are top priority, the latter should always be important. People can be quick to judge and ask why celebrity couples did not try to make their marriages work. It becomes a case of the outside looking in when judging the relationship of others. How can any person not involved in a marriage or the dealings of it know exactly what took place?

Duff and Comrie’s split are both sad and refreshing. Huh? Yes. It is sad that such a nice couple has decided to end their union. The announcement that Duff and Comrie ended their marriage came without ugly headlines or nasty spews toward one another. The couple parting ways seems to have ended on a friendly note. The term, “We will remain the best of friends,” could be words that hold true in this situation. This is a case of two very nice people who decided to remain friends and agree to raise their wonderful son.
