Tsarnaev’s Crime Resulting in Death Penalty

Accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is about to face a death penalty for his violent, merciless criminal act.  Federal prosecutors chose to try for the most severe punishment possible and a death penalty in particular, which is a decision solely announced by the jury and the federal judge in the sentencing trial.

Tsarnaev is charged with designing two bombs, with the aid of his older brother, which exploded in the middle of a sea of Boston Marathon participant. The crime committed, resulted in the death of three people and wounded more than 260 others. The crime is deemed as one of the most traumatizing, violent acts of terrorism. It shook everyone’s heart and stunned the whole nation.

Among the factors that are taken into consideration for the process of judgement in a death penalty case are the commitment of a premeditated crime, the risk to public safety and the consequences of it. Tsarnaev has pleaded not guilty in all the charges. In fact, some people believe him and identify with his case. They think he is the offspring of his psychologically disturbed family. His father was known to have been captured and tortured by Russian troops during a civil war. However, it has never been proven true. Some people also believe that he might be schizophrenic. On the other hand, another group of people believe that it’s totally fair to receive death punishment regardless of his young age or family issues. He might be victimized by social circumstances, nevertheless, he has played a huge role in creating his tragic fate.

Tsarnaev’s character can be described as appearance vs reality. Many of his friends still find it hard to believe that the kindhearted, funny, intelligent, ambitious student would use a weapon of mass destruction and cause brutal harm for innocent people. Some of his friends would even describe him as passive because whenever he competed in a game of soccer or wrestling and loses, he would just smile, acting like he could not do better. None of his acquaintances would describe him as violent or aggressive. Besides being loved by everyone, his wrestling coach was also fond of him. He saw him as a model of a good sportsmanship with strong, skillful athletic qualities .

On the contrary, Tsarnaev’s inner self was perplexing and his private life was mysterious. He was not sharing much about his family background. All that is known about him is that he came from Chechnya and lived in Russia. His friends saw glimpses of his brother, Tamerlan and some of them used to see him whenever they got to his house. They realized that Tamerlan played the role of the father and he was sort of dominating Dzhokhar. At one time he would compel two of Dzokhar’s Muslim friends to sit and read a book about Islam and prayers which they find peculiar and decided to avoid coming to his place since then.

What’s more obscure is that a message was detected a week before the bombing, on his Twitter account reading : ” If you have the knowledge and inspiration all that’s left is to take action”. Presumably, the action or the crime that took place will possibly result in a death penalty for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
