Academy Awards Current Stars That Have Never Won

The 66th annual Academy Awards will take place tonight and at the show there will be plenty of past Oscar winners, as well as some current stars that have never had the honor of winning the award. While there have been many Oscar “snubs” throughout the years, there are some pretty big names still active in Hollywood who are yet to win an Academy Award.

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has been in the business of Hollywood for decades now, but he has never received any acknowledgement for his work from the Academy. He has been nominated for an Oscar three times for his work in Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia. Recently Cruise has focused more on action thriller type films, which does not capture the eye of the academy quite as much as other genres. He is set to star in sequels to Top Gun, as well as, Mission Impossible in the near future.

Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore is one the few actresses to have been nominated for an Oscar for supporting and lead actress in the same year. In 2003 she received these honors for her roles in The Hours and Far From Heaven. Moore has been nominated for an Academy Award four times, but she has still never gone home with a golden statue. She is one of many current Hollywood stars that have never won an Academy Award. Her most recent film was Non-Stop, which she starred in alongside Liam Neeson.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has often been criticized for portraying similar roles in his films. He has mastered the art of lovable, flamboyant characters, but has not received any praise from the Academy. The preferred actor of director, Tim Burton, has been nominated for three Academy Awards throughout his career. Depp’s work in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Finding Neverland, and the Tim Burton directed, Sweeney Todd, all earned Depp Oscar nominations. However, he has still never received the Oscar nod and walked away with a trophy from the Academy.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt has been Mr. Hollywood for the past decade and a half, but surprisingly enough, he has never won an Academy Award. Pitt has been involved in countless films throughout the years and has portrayed a wide array of different characters in them. However, he has never put forth a performance that the Academy deemed worthy of an Oscar. Pitt has been nominated for an Academy Award for his work in Twelve Monkeys, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and most recently, Moneyball. While Pitt is not nominated for any Academy Awards in the acting category this year, if the film 12 Years a Slave wins the award for best picture, Pitt would receive his first ever Oscar for his role as a producer on the film.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Perhaps the most surprising member of this list is Leo DiCaprio. Currently regarded as one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, DiCaprio has never been a recipient of an Academy Award despite many terrific performances. Since breaking onto the scene for his performance in the Titanic 17 years ago, DiCaprio has been nominated for an Academy Award for his work in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Aviator, and Blood Diamond. At the Academy Awards this year DiCaprio has yet again been nominated for an Oscar, for his lead role in Martin Scorsese’s film, The Wolf of Wall Street. DiCaprio will be vying for his first Oscar against fellow nominees Matthew McConaughey, Christian Bale, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Bruce Dern.

Regardless of what current Hollywood stars have or have never won an Academy Award, The Oscars are the most prestigious award show of the year and they always make for an exciting event for nominees and fans alike.
