It was in 1999 when Cher first announced that the diva’s Believe tour would be the singers last. Now the legendary pop-icon is saying farewell for the second time with the singers Dressed to Kill tour.
The tour is to include 50 North American cities and has started off with a proverbial bang. However, the show did not go on without any glitches. The very first tour date was on March 22 at the US Airways Center in Phoenix Arizona. The Strong Enough vocalist was crying just two hours before the show. Cher confessed that some of the lyrics for two of the entertainer’s songs had eluded the larger-than-life icon. To top it all off the costumes did not fit right and Cher even broke a nail. “Tonight,” Cher said, “you’re going to see the show warts and all.”
During the sold out show, Cher had a couple of vocal miscues but that did not seem to bother any of Cher’s adoring fans who hung off the legends every word and followed every movement. Perhaps the minor flubs were due to stage fright or the stress of opening night. Either way, the show was a spectacular production that had a sense of truth and realism behind it.
Cher has been performing now for 40 years and the amount of followers and fans of new and old, still surprises Cher to this day. “It’s an artist’s dream to have a career where you’re continually drawing new people in,” Cher told Billboard, “while hopefully keeping your long-time fans happy.” Cher said, “But I’m certainly aware of the fact that it’s a rare occurrence.” The singer explained, “I don’t take for granted the fact that people still care about what I do on any level.”
During the concert Cher could not resist talking about Kim Kardashian and the reality stars biggest asset. “I know it’s cool to have a big ol’ a** booty,” the singer said then added that Cher’s booty was “not bad for my age.” Cher continued, “Kim Kardashian probably has a photo album of her a**.” Cher did not just use the reality star as a brunt for jokes but also made wise cracks on the singers own age and insecurities.
Cher, saying farewell for the second time with this Dressed to Kill concert tour, has definitely chosen an apt title for the show. The diva had many costume changes that certainly pleased and got the crowd’s hearts racing. Cher’s trademark look was ever-present with each change as well as was the wigs the star wore. Donning bright pink, blonde and red wigs as Cher performed Believe, Take it Like a Man and Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves. Cher returned to the singers black hair to sing If I Could Turn Back Time.
Another pleasant surprise about the Dressed to Kill tour is who will be performing with Cher at certain venues. Pat Benatar and Cyndi Lauper will be splitting up cities in the U.S. and Canada. Though Cher’s fans are saddened that this is the diva’s farewell tour, one could never know what the 67-year-old singer will do in the future. After all, this would not be the first time Cher announced that a tour would be the singers last.
