The cast for writer-director Edgar Wright’s upcoming Ant-Man feature film continues to grow. Marvel Studios has reportedly signed House Of Cards actor Corey Stoll to join the film that is about to begin production very shortly. Along for the film’s action adventure thrill ride are Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas. Ant-Man is scheduled to kick off Marvel’s ‘Phase Three’ on July 17th, 2015.
The feature-film adaptation was written by Edgar Wright and Attack The Block’s Joe Cornish. In the original comic book storyline, scientist Hank Pym invented a special substance that allowed him to drastically alter his size, and he soon became the superhero known as Ant-Man. The adaptation is said to feature two characters who wore the red jumpsuit during the comic book’s history. The film will feature both Hank Pym and his successor Scott Lang, with Douglas speculated to play Pym and Rudd rumored to be Lang. Cast alongside Rudd and Douglas is Evangeline Lilly. Lilly’s part has not been officially announced, but she is said to be playing Janet Van Dyne, also known as The Wasp. In the comics, Janet was the superhero wife of Hank Pym, though her character could be updated and altered to better fit in the cinematic universe. Patrick Wilson and Michael Penn have also joined Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man film, in unspecified roles.
Corey Stoll made his first noticeable splash on the big screen in the 2006 action thriller Lucky Number Slevin starring Josh Hartnett and Bruce Willis. Stoll has taken guest spots on several top line television shows throughout his career including NCIS, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, NYPD Blue, ER and Law & Order. Recently Stoll has been popping up in cinemas in films like Midnight In Paris, Salt, and The Bourne Legacy.
For director Edgar Wright, Ant-Man will mark his second comic-book adaptation. The British filmmaker got his start writing and directing the cult television series Spaced with stars Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes. From there, Wright began what he would dub ‘The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy’ or ‘The Blood And Ice Cream Trilogy.’ This began with the 2004 romantic zombie comedy called Shaun Of The Dead with Spaced stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Pegg, Frost and Wright followed up Shaun Of The Dead with the cop/buddy parody Hot Fuzz in 2007. Edgar Wright then took a break from ‘The Cornetto Trilogy’ to write and direct an adaptation of the cult comic book entitled Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World with Michael Cera and Captain America himself, Chris Evans. Wright, Pegg and Frost returned to close out their trilogy with last year’s well-received science fiction comedy The World’s End.
Ant-Man is set to launch the Marvel cinematic universe into ‘Phase Three’ with it being the first Marvel film released following The Avengers: Age Of Ultron on May 1st, 2015. It is the first non-sequel film to be announced for Marvel’s ‘Phase Three’ with rumors that he may be possibly joined by the likes of Doctor Strange and a Black Widow solo feature, as well as a possible Inhumans adaptation. House Of Cards Corey Stoll will join in on the fun of Marvel Studio’s cinematic universe when Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man film releases on July 17th, 2015.
