Hugh Jackman Wonders ‘Who Am I’ When Not Wolverine (Video)

Do people think Hugh Jackman ever wonders ‘Who Am I?’ Jackman recently gave a rare performance during an interview with BBC radio1 in which the actor sings out a comical song written about his woes as simply not knowing who he is, as Hugh Jackman when he is not playing his well-beloved character Wolverine from the X-Men movies.

Even though this is just a fun promotional idea and was most probably done on the fly, one can see Jackman keeps his voice in tip-top shape. The actor sings on top of the very recognizable song ‘Who Am I’, from Les Miserables. Trying not to laugh through great lines like “I’m at the gym lifting weights each day, Hugh has to look buff they say” and “I gave up junk food long ago, I made that bargain long ago,” he sings.

Unfortunately, as Jackman geared up to sing the very last line of the song Wolverine, he could not quite make the high note. He stopped short saying “I haven’t got it today.” The actor then laughs it off while coughing to recover his voice. Besides that little blunder, people still love the guy, he is insanely talented.

“Am I a superhero with some claws? Or just an actor searching for applause?” – Hugh Jackman

During the song, Jackman slips in a cute line when promoting his performance in the upcoming film X-Men: Days of Future Past. “Wolverine has all the fans, but what about me Hugh Jack-MAN. I play the wolfman yes it’s quite the task, in X Men: Days of Future Past (there’s the plug)” he sings.  No need to guess whether Jackman takes himself this seriously, this parody of ‘Who Am I’ is obviously just for fun. Not one X-Men fan wonders if there could be anyone greater for the role of Wolverine, Jackman was simply perfect for the part.

The action packed movie X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to hit theaters May 23rd 2014. Directed by Brian Singer and featuring a huge all-star cast. Along with Jackman, one can expect to see Patrick Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Holt, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, James McAvoy, Even Peters, and Halle Berry among others. The movie trailer looks quite dark and appears to be held in a post-apocalyptic setting, with once again the most stunning visual effects to please any movie goer. A definite one to watch this spring/summer 2014.

Jackman is not only an accomplished actor but a Broadway star. This interview brings the thought to mind, will there ever be an X-Men Broadway musical? Spiderman and Rocky have already done it, so why not? There would be no greater option than to cast Jackman to play Wolverine of course.

Since Neil Patrick Harris will no longer be hosting this year’s upcoming Tony Awards, Jackman has taken his place and people will no doubt hope he sings a few lines that night. Jackman probably never wonders about who he is when he is not playing Wolverine, even though some would say the role changed everything for him, (before staring as Jean Valjean, who sang the original ‘Who Am I’) the character is larger than life, yet he still remains as one of Hollywood’s most talented and humble actors.
