Jennie Garth Talks Divorce From Peter Facinelli

The Beverly Hills, 90120 actress Jennie Garth continues to talk about her divorce from Peter Facinelli. The couple announced their separation in March 2012 and finalized their divorce in June 2013. In her new memoir, Deep Thoughts From a Hollywood Blonde, Garth revealed the reasons why her marriage to the Twilight actor didn’t work out.

Garth blamed Facinelli’s work schedule and some of her own insecurities as the reason for the couple’s split up. While Facinelli was away on a film set, Garth was in charge of taking care of the home and their three daughters in Los Angeles. “I was thrilled for him that he was taking his career to the next level,” the actress wrote in her book. “But I was also, I can see now, feeling a bit resentful and itchy in ways that I couldn’t quite identify….”

In a March 6 interview with Access Hollywood, Garth talked about the aftermath of her divorce from Facinelli. She has had a few relationships since her breakup from her ex-husband. She dated businessman Michael Shimbo up until last November. “I think that for anybody that’s going through bad times in their life, it’s really important to let yourself fall apart,” she said in regards to how she managed to get over her divorce.

The 41-year-old also talked about her first divorce to musician Dan Clark. She broke off the marriage shortly after meeting Facinelli on the set of the 1996 TV movie, The Unfinished Affair. At the time, she was 22 and had only been married for two years.

Garth and Facinelli married in 2001. They were together for 17 years until he filed for divorce March 28. During an interview on Live! With Kelly in April 2012, he opened up about his decision to call it quits with his wife. “It’s very painful to breakup with somebody,” he said. “Especially after you’ve been together for 17 years and have kids.”

In Garth’s new book, the actress said the split up was years in the making. Though Garth and Facinelli attempted to keep their marriage together by seeing therapists, the situation took a turn for the worse when the Twilight actor met his current girlfriend, Jaimie Alexander on the set of Loosies.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress said Facinelli came home and told her he didn’t want to be married anymore. “He thought it would it best that we separate so that we could get a better sense of where we stood with each other,” she wrote in her book.

Facinelli has been dating actress Jaimie Alexander since his marriage to Garth fell apart. The new author was also linked to photographer Noah Abrams and musician Jeremy Salken.

Deep Thoughts From a Hollywood Blonde released March 4. The memoir also reveals shocking details about Garth’s struggles with anxiety, life on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210 and how work was like with Amanda Bynes on the television series What I Like About You.

Though the couple divorced awhile ago, Garth continues to talk about her split from Facinelli. The pair also co-parent their three daughters Luca, 16, Lola, 10 and Fiona, 7.

Don’t complain or talk bad about your husband to your friends, parents, or siblings. You’ll forgive him long before they do. Keep your mouth shut or talk to him about whatever is bothering you.

No marriage is perfect or easy, and both people must work at it. Sometimes, you just have to go with the flow. Build a strong team structure. Once that’s in place, then think about kids.
