LeBron James Grants Girls Wish

LeBron JamesLeBron James reached out recently to a 16 year old girl who is a local basketball star and also fighting cancer, to grant her wish.  Ebony Nettles Bey, a high school student and basketball player is battling an aggressive stage 4 cancer, and her wish was to meet King James himself. Social media went crazy in support of her and her dream, and made it a reality that Ebony will never forget. Attending a Miami Heat game was all she thought she was doing, and the next thing you know, she is taking shots on the floor next to LeBron himself. She was surprised by being led into the Miami Heats locker room, under the guise that she was getting a free dinner, and not only met LeBron but got to lead the team out onto the floor where she shot some hoops with him. Being nervous she missed her first few shots, but James wouldn’t let her stop still she nailed it!

LeBron James not only granted this girls wish, he took it a step further by sporting writing on his shoes in support of Ebony. ‘Cancer Who?’ and ‘Ebony = Strength’ are the words he used. This young girls fight could inspire anyone, as after doctors told her she would be done playing basketball, she proved them wrong by not only continuing to play, but she is her teams starting forward. The Miami Heat will be playing just 90 miles from Verona, Ebony’s current hometown, and plans for the two to get together again are already in the works.

Nettles verbally agreed to play ball at UW Milwaukee just before the diagnosis of cancer descended on her. She was the star player on her team sporting very impressive stats. This young role model will say that playing basketball is a release for her and a way to forget about the daily routine battling cancer has set out for her. When her team mates learned of the diagnosis, is when they took to Twitter and made their plea known to the Miami Heat. It was something LeBron James just couldn’t turn down, and he granted her wish in the grandest of ways, the King James way. Ebony’s team has learned that basketball isn’t everything, and there are far more important things in life, and they have shown that in the biggest way possible, by supporting their team member in the fight for her life.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common cancer of the soft tissues and unfortunately affects, muscles, tendons and other soft tissues. That’s a rough diagnosis for someone as athletic as Ebony. However she does not let it get her down, even going through treatment that left her without hair, she was there trying out for her team at the beginning of the year. This young fighter could inspire even LeBron James himself, which is why this gentle giant granted this girls wish. James has been an inspiration for young people through out his career, and came out in support of this brave young women and helped her realize her dreams.
