3D Printing: The Future

3d printing

A new book called Fabricated: The New World of Printing has been published about 3D printing and what will happen in the future. These are just some of the ways that the future will be changed by 3D printing.

The first way that 3D printing will change the future is that the complexity of manufacturing is free. When it comes to 3D printing, there is no difference between the amount of time that it takes to manufacture a simple or complex object. The time or cost will always be about the same. A 3D printer will end up changing how people determine the cost of things.

The book believes that the second approach for 3D printing to change the future is that a 3D printer can make different kinds of shapes. Like a human artist, a 3D printer will not make the same shape each time. With most machines, the machine will have to be adjusted to make a different shape. The machinists will have to have adjustments as well and will have to be re-trained to do the new tool. All a person needs to do to change a 3D printer is to feed the printer a new digital blueprint and new material.

3D printing will change the future of mass manufacturing. In mass manufacturing, an object comes in pieces and put together on an assembly line by robots and people. The more complex an object is, the more money must be spent on robots and people to build it. A 3D printer creates the entire object. It is not necessary to put the pieces together. 3D printing could save money by not having to spend money on workers or the transport of the parts to assemble the object.

Due to 3D printing, in the future, an object can be created as needed. A company will no longer need to have a stockpile of inventory. A 3D printing can easily custom build an object for the person and the person will not have to wait any longer than he or she would for a regular object. Objects lathe can be built fast and will be near the person that wants the object. There will be no need to spend money on shipping.

3D printing will change the future by opening up design spaces. A 3D printer does not need much space to create objects that could only be seen in nature. Now, people need a factory that takes up a huge amount of space just to build one car. A person will just need a small printer to make a car.

A 3D printer does not take much skill to use. A person does not have to spend hours training under a master to learn the skills of a trade. All the person has to do is press the button and let the printer do the work. The person may just have to keep track of the material used to make the object. In the future, people will need to be re-trained to do a job that would be truly challenging.

A recent book called Fabricated: The New World of Printing tries to answer how the future will be changed by 3D printing. Not everyone will enjoy this future, but at least, people will be prepared for it because of this book.
