Eminem and Rihanna Are Confirmed for a 2014 MTV Movie Awards Performance

Music stars Rihanna and Eminem are confirmed a 2014 MTV Movie Awards performance. The two will be taking the stage for their previous collaboration, The Monster, from Eminem’s last album The Marshall Mathers LP2. The song will be featured on the broadcast of the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 13. This also marks the first ever time Eminem and Rihanna will perform the track on television.

Eminem and Rihanna join the duo of Ellie Goulding and DJ Zedd, who are also confirmed for a duet performance at the awards show. This year’s MTV Movie Awards event will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and will be held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California on Sunday.

Beyond the fact that Eminem and Rihanna are confirmed for a 2014 MTV Movie Awards performance, the duet performance will not stop there. The MTV Movie Awards performance of The Monster appears to only be a warm-up for the recording artists. Eminem and Rihanna will pick things up for The Monster Tour, set for six dates and three cities, starting on August 7 at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl. The tour finishes at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Eminem’s stomping grounds, on August 23.

Recently in an interview with Power 106, Eminem revealed that in between the recording of his Encore and Relapse albums, he was not feeling good about his music at all. As a result, Eminem came very close to writing a dis rap directed at “dissing everybody,” including Kanye West and Lil Wayne. According to Eminem, “When I was away, I was watching what was going on in the game. Anything that was hot at that moment, anybody that was really killing s***.” He continued, “I felt so bad about myself and the music that I was creating, I felt I was starting to turn into a hater.” For Eminem he got to a point where he would listen to Kanye West and Wayne’s music that he thought about not wanting to rap anymore. He stated, “Singling Kanye and Wayne out at that time period, they were the ones killing it the most to me and it hurt. I’d pop a CD in and be like ‘f*** man, I’m not doing this no more.'”

What stopped Eminem from writing the dis rap was his fear that it would be career suicide for him. He elaborated on his thought process and explained how he had some very dark thoughts, saying, “There were some really dark moments in there, when I think about my thought processes when I was a high a lot.” He continued, “It wasn’t good and it certainly wasn’t me. I’m not even that sort of person.”

Also confirmed to receive special awards for the show are Mark Wahlberg, receiving the Generation Award, and Channing Tatum, who will receive the Trailblazer Award. The Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle currently lead the nominations for the show this year, each boasting a total of eight nominations. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire came in second with seven award nominations. We’re the Millers was last with six nods.

MTV will be broadcasting the 2014 MTV Movie awards at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Now that Eminem and Rihanna are confirmed for a 2014 MTV Movie Awards performance, interest will likely increase exponentially for the event.
