Selena Gomez has done much more than just unfollow everyone on Instagram, she sacked her parents as well and now Katy Perry’s manager has agreed to take the 21 year-old singer on. Gomez has been “cleaning house” since deciding to get back with her former boyfriend, Justin Bieber.
Just last week the Come and Get It performer made headlines when she unceremoniously dumped the two Jenner girls, Kendall and Kylie, after spending most of Coachella in their back pockets. The Slow Down singer did not stop with just dumping her two former friends either. She also unfollowed her BFF Taylor Swift, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Benson, among others.
According to E! Gomez now follows no one on her Instagram account. Taking a quick look at the entertainer’s profile shows that this is true. She has over 8 million followers and she follows no one back. Not even her fella Justin Bieber apparently. It has been said that Selena is cutting out all the negative influences in her life. Kind of like a social network trimming off of the deadwood.
It seems that this elimination of all things negative included dumping her mother and stepfather from her management team. According to TMZ Gomez’s mother Mandy Teefey and Selena’s stepfather Brian, were both shocked and “blindsided” by her sudden decision to drop them as her management team.
Selena zeroed in on Katy Perry’s Manager, Bradford Cobb, and he’s apparently agreed to take Gomez onboard. This surprize move from Gomez comes after a rumored show down between the singer’s mother/stepfather and herself after the reunion of Bieber and Gomez. The performer’s management team shoved her into a rehab center after the last big breakup between the Canadian singer and Selena.
When the actress/singer got back together with Justin, her mom and stepdad were very upset and almost “violently” opposed to the two becoming an item once again. It has been said that Selena threw down on her managing parents and whipped out the “who do you think the money earner is here” card.
Gomez has been laying waste to all her previous friendships and relationships since she’s gotten back with Bieber. While it makes sense that she moves on in terms of management, her cutting ties with everyone else could prove to be a mistake in the long run. Her former BFF Taylor Swift being axed shows just how far Selena is prepared to go in order to prove her devotion to Justin.
Bradford Cobb, the man who helped Katy Perry to Roar, is undoubtedly a good strategic choice by Gomez. Cobb also manages Adam Lambert and he’s been listed on Billboard as one of the top 40 executives of 2013. According to Bradford his company, Direct Management Group, is a real team effort and the group’s aim is to build the right team for each client.
Katy Perry has certainly benefitted from Cobb’s business plan and now that her manager has agreed to take Selena Gomez on, Bieber’s girlfriend may be able to move forward with her own career. She definitely needs to do what she can to become a household name like Perry and that’s not going to happen as a result of following/unfollowing folks on Instagram.
