Nikeya Melton, an ODU junior who also lives in The District, said it is really and honestly very scary. The security guards are supposed to be there to protect them. She went on to say it has been quite suspicious around there with the security guards because they are often seen just watching them. Although it is crazy, Melton said she is not too shocked to know something like that might have happened.

Another student, Morgan McCollum an ODU senior, agreed that this situation is crazy. She said security guards always around and she actually feels safer when they are there; she remembers a time when they had no guards. Having heard about this now, McCollum said, is just crazy.

The District’s management issued a statement concerning the incident:

We are fully cooperating and assisting law enforcement.
