Disney is working on a sequel to the 2012 animated film, Wreck-it Ralph. The original film was a big surprise hit for Disney, it opened to 49-million domestically, which is the biggest opening yet for an animated Disney film. The film went on to earn 471-million world-wide, and immediately talks of a sequel were buzzing around, but not much has been heard of it since till now.
Wreck-it Ralph is about the life of a depressed arcade video game character named Ralph, he is the villain of his video game but actually wants to be more like the hero, Fix-it Felix. The issue is that no one like’s a bad guy, but they do love heroes. When a new arcade video game arrives that is a shooter game with tough action heroes in it, Ralph comes up with a plan to sneak into the game. His hopes are to win a medal in the game and finally find happiness in being a hero and a good guy. The issue is that Ralph wrecks the game, and accidentally unleashes a deadly villain that wants to dominate all the arcade games. With the help of a new friend, another arcade video game character, Ralph is able to stop the villain and in the process find out what it really means to be a hero.
With the new Wreck-it Ralph sequel that Disney is working on, the question is will the same cast return? Ralph was played by the always funny John C. Reilly, who is best known for his comedic roles co-starring alongside Will Ferrel in such films at the 2006 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and also the 2008 Step-Brothers. Jane Lynch from the hit comedy-musical TV show Glee plays Calhoun, and comedienne Sarah Silverman plays the lovable kid character Vanellope. Other such notables in the cast are Jack McBrayer, Ed O’Neill and Mindy Kaling among others. All cast members expressed good things about the film, and most likely all would return to have another go at their animated characters. This film was recorded uniquely with the actors, in most animated films the actors record their lines on their own at separate times. Here they were all in the same room recording their lines, which at times led to many improvised moments that made it into the film and also made the feel of the film much better.
It was the composer of the film, Henry Jackman that first stated news about the new sequel to Wreck-it Ralph. He mentions that at this point, the film is just in pre-production level getting written. The director, Rich Moore stated back in 2012 after the success of the film that he was excited to start work on the sequel. He specifically mentioned wanting to involve the iconic video game character Mario from the Super Mario Bros. video game franchise.
With the new Wreck-it Ralph sequel in the works, we can hope to see even more new video game characters pop up on the big screen next to Ralph and friends. For now the story is just words on a paper, soon those words will come to life by the wonderful casts voice performance and the amazing animated technology that Disney always delivers on, so make sure to check back in for further updates on the new Wreck-it Ralph sequel.
