Michael Keaton is starring in the new comedy film Birdman. The film also stars Emma Stone, Edward Norton, and Naomi Watts. Keaton’s Birdman is about a washed-up actor trying to get another taste at stardom, only to find roadblocks he never had faced before. The movie is due in theaters on October 17, 2014.
Michael Keaton is a well-known and very talented actor. He has grown famous over the years for the various characters he brought to life. The Pennsylvania born actor is in his 60s, but that does not stop him from working hard. Other 2014 productions he will be working on are the Need for Speed video game, and Robocop. He has been off the radar for some time, but has never truly stopped working. He has done a number of voice over work for TV, movies, and video games. The famous actor first made a name for himself for his role as Bill Blazejowski in Night Shift. He is best known for playing Batman in the Tim Burton renditions of the hero, as well as the loud mouth poltergeist in Beetlejuice. He has proved himself to be a very versatile actor, and a beloved comedian.
Michael Kenton is not considered a washed up actor but perhaps he plays a bit of himself in his Birdman role. The story follows Riggan Thomson, a former star actor who rose to fame playing the iconic superhero Birdman. He joins a Broadway play in the hopes of returning to the spotlight, but that is easier said than done. The actor must battle his ego to regain control of his career and family. Emma Stone will be playing his drug-addicted daughter, who is also and actor. Edward Norton appears in the film as well, playing a pretentious stage actor Thomson has to work with. That casting makes another possible actor playing someone like themselves in this film, as rumor has it that Norton is not the easiest man to work with. The film includes a number of big names such as Lindsay Duncan, Zach Galifianakis, Naomi Watts, Amy Ryan, and Andrea Riseborough.
According the IMDB, Birdman has been completed and is set to be released this fall. No official trailer has been published yet, but there is a teaser video with Keaton posted below. Alejandro González Iñárritu directed and wrote the film, along with co-writers Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolas Giacobone, and Armando Bo. Iñárritu was born in Mexico City and worked on a number of Mexican productions until his 2003 film, 21 Grams, brought him to American audiences. In 2006 he released his Oscar winning film Babel. A lot of his work is very serious and dark toned, so he was a shocking choice for the Birdman comedy.
Although the movie just missed the Cannes Film Festival, it will be right on time for awards season. Birdman shows an inside view of both the positive and negative effects of fame on a person. The film pokes fun at aging super stars whose egos have not aged a day. Michael Keaton’s new film, Birdman, will be in theaters this fall.
