The Evil Within Delayed to October

In April of 2012, Shinji Mikami, the original creator of Resident Evil began working on what he would call the last game he directs. His last work is meant to become the ideal for pure survival horror in video games and was originally called “Project Zwei” but you may know it as The Evil Within. Unfortunately, the title has been delayed from August this year to October, which may be a bit more fitting for the title. Xbox and PlayStation owners prepare yourselves. Here is the original trailer.

The player controls Detective Sebastian Castellanos and friends who encounter a mass murder at the hand of some mysterious power. Sebastian is attacked by the mysterious force and awakens in a land of monsters and madness. In order to save his friends and find a way back, Sebastian must fight his fears and uncover the truth of the mysterious force that cursed him. The bloody sights waiting for Sebastian are too much for some people to stomach. This title is not for the feint of heart.

Similar to Resident Evil, gameplay in The Evil Within is third-person, it is survival horror which means the game intends to give you little to defend yourself with. Moreso than Resident Evil, The Evil Within depends upon massive gore and gruesome sights, similar to what you’d see if you were watching a Saw movie. If you can not handle excessive blood and spider ladies, you should leave, but if you can here is a look into the gameplay.

The team working on this game is notable for a number of reasons. Tango Gameworks was founded by Shinji Mikami and employs staff from Grasshopper Manufacture, (Killer7) Platinum Games, (Bayonetta) Clover Games, (Viewtiful Joe) and Capcom (Street Fighter). Masafumi Takada, most known for working on No More Heroes, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Kid Icarus: Uprising is the head Composer. Plus, voice actors such as Yuri Lowenthal and Matthew Mercer will be lending their talent to the team.

Bethesda Softworks finally announced what pre-order bonus would accompany the game when it comes out, they call it the “Fighting Chance Pack.” This comes with five in-game items, one of which is a double barrel shotgun with three shells. Other items include a Medical Kit, Incendiary Agony Bolt, (showers enemies with sparks) Poison Agony Bolt (lure enemies away while poisoning them) and Green Gel which is used to upgrade Sebastian’s attributes.

The Evil Within Tango Gameworks

The Evil Within is a third-person survival horror shooter directed by Shinji Mikami, developed with Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is also the last game Shinji Mikami intends to direct. If you enjoyed Resident Evil 4 then this is a title you should be paying close attention to. October 21 is when North America can expect The Evil Within, October 23 for Australia and October 24 for Europe. Most next-gen and last-gen consoles will have this game, meaning owners of the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC need to prepare for some Halloween frights.
