Bachelorette Emily Maynard Weds

Bachelorette Emily Maynard wed Saturday night in a secret surprise wedding ceremony at her fiancé’s farm in South Carolina. Maynard married Taylor Johnson, a management consultant, after being engaged to him since January. This was Maynard’s fourth engagement.

Maynard first came to fame on the Brad Womack season of The Bachelor, becoming engaged to him at the end of his season. When her engagement with Brad ended, she then became The Bachelorette on her own season. That season ended with her engaged to Jef Holm, but the relationship did not last. Maynard met Johnson at church, a decidedly different place than a dating game show.

The ceremony took place on John son’s family farm. Maynard and Johnson’s family and friends joined them for what they thought would be an engagement party, but in reality, the couple had been planning a secret wedding for three months. Maynard wore a pink dress with cowboy boots underneath. Her daughter Ricki served as the Maid of Honor. Maynard said it was her day, too.

The father of Maynard’s daughter Ricki was race car driver Ricky Hendrick. Before little Ricki was born, Hendrick was killed in a plane crash. Maynard would often reflect on what it was like for Ricki to grow up without a father on her season of The Bachelorette. Maynard says that she believes that Tyler Johnson will be a great father, and that Ricki already likes him more than Ricki likes her own mother.

Though Bachelorette Emily Maynard has wed, for a show all about love, The Bachelorette does not have the best track record with enduring relationships. Only two of its Bachelorettes ever married to people they met on the show. Trista Rehn married Ryan Sutter on the show in 2003. They are still married and have two children. In 2011, Ashley Hebert married dental student JP Rosenbaum. They are also still together. Hebert’s season of The Bachelorette led to a few pairings, as some contestants on her season started relationships with women they met on The Bachelor spin-off Bachelor Pad. Two seasons ago The Bachelor also ended with a marriage, with Bachelor Sean Lowe marrying Catherine Giudici during a live wedding ceremony. Maynard was engaged twice to people she met on the show, but none of them stuck.

Maynard says that for a long time, she was embarrassed about her time on the show. She puts her ability to get over that embarrassment on her faith in God and meeting Tyler Johnson. Maynard says that the reason that she and Johnson will work out is because they met in church and were friends first. She says that a friendship is the best basis for any relationship.

In a secret, surprise ceremony on Saturday night, Bachelorette Emily Maynard wed her fiancée Tyler Johnson at his family farm in Sharon, South Carolina. Surrounded by almost 200 people, Maynard walked down the torch lined aisle, with her daughter Ricki serving as her Maid of Honor. Maynard and Johnson have been engaged to each other since January.
