The popular musical, Jersey Boys, is making its way to the big screen with a movie adaption from Warner Brothers. Clint Eastwood directs the anticipated film, which stars cast members John Lloyd Young, Michael Lomenda, Erich Bergen and Vincent Piazza as the famous band, The Four Seasons. The play was originally created by band member Bob Gaudio in the early 2000’s, and shows the bands rise to fame, fortune and misfortune. Jersey Boys will be hitting theaters on June 20, 2014.
Jersey Boys is a biography style play about the rock and roll singing group, The Four Seasons. The play follows the New Jersey born musician’s rise to success throughout the 60’s and the dramatic events that lead to their eventual break up. The play is divided into the four seasons, and each one is narrated by a member of the group, with each portraying their own perspective of occurring events. Prior to the musical, little was known about the band’s history as they went from rags to riches and back to rags again. Songs on the bill include Big Girls Don‘t Cry, Working My Way Back to You, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and December 1963 (Oh What A Night).
Broadway to film productions are a popular market, allowing theater fans from all over the world to see their favorite plays without having to a take a trip to the big city. With the great commercial and Oscar success of productions such as Les Miserables (2012) and Chicago (2002), Jersey Boys is making a scene before it hits theaters on June 20, 2014. The play opened on Broadway in 2005, and has since had two National American tours and productions everywhere from London’s West End to Singapore. Jersey Boys won four Tony Awards in 2006, including Best Musical. In addition, it won a Grammy for Best Musical. Racking up a number of other prestigious awards, the play has amassed a large and loyal fan base.
Clint Eastwood is at it again, directing his first film since J. Edgar in 2011. Fans are excited to see his first attempt at directing a musical. Eastwood’s dark and dramatic presence in his filmography will surely give the movie the tones necessary to portray the controversial events that the band faced. Tony award winner, John Lloyd Young, will be reprising his famed role as Frankie Valli. The How Sweet Is It (2012) actor, Erich Bergen, will be playing Bob Gaudio, who famously co-wrote all of the bands biggest hits. Vincent Piazza will be playing Tommy DeVito, and Michael Lomenda appears as Nick Massie, who are the remaining two original members of the band. Christopher Walken will appear in the film as the mobster Gyp DeCarlo. Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice wrote the book and the screenplay, with music created by Bob Gaudio and Bob Crewe.
The Jersey Boys film production has been in the works since the plays last international tour in 2011. The GK Film production is also working with Malpaso Productions and RatPac Entertainment. Fans of the musical are ready to sing along when Jersey Boys hits theaters across the country on June 20, 2014.
