Miley Cyrus Fans Trying to Beat ‘Happy’ for MMVA

Miley Cyrus

Fans of Miley Cyrus are feverishly working Twitter to try to beat Pharrell Williams’ Happy in the category of International Video of the Year – Artist for Sunday’s Much Music Video Awards (MMVAs). Under the hashtag MileyforMMVA, Cyrus’ legion of followers are attempting to upset Pharrell’s mega hit with online votes for her own hit Wrecking Ball. The International Video of the Year category will likely push Much Music’s computer servers to the limit as voters choose between the videos by Cyrus, Pharrell, Selena Gomez (Come & Get It), Lorde (Royals) and Taylor Swift featuring Ed Sheeran (Everything has Changed). Taking down Pharrell, Gomez, Swift and Lorde will be a tall order, but if anyone has the fan base to pull off the upset, it is Miley Cyrus.

For those unaware, Much Music is a Canadian video music channel. They host an outdoor party every year which masquerades as an awards show. The event really does have awards, but the setting is more fun and free-flowing than similar shows. MMVA is actually an acronym for “fun.” This year’s show is being hosted by Kendall and Kylie Jenner, who definitely have experience in front of a camera from Keeping Up with the Kardashians but are out of their element hosting a party based live show. Given that fun is the theme, a few mistaken lines here or there will add to the amusement instead of creating controversy. In fact, organizers may be more disappointed if the show fails to have a live flub or two.

Trying to beat Happy for the MMVA award is going to be difficult, even for Miley Cyrus fans. Pharrell’s monster hit dominates the radio airwaves like no other. Virtually everyone within earshot of a radio the last few months has no doubt heard the song. The tune is catchy and addicting. The video is fun and inclusive as well. Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball is an able challenger. Few songs have the heartfelt and raw emotion like Wrecking Ball. The video brings out the raw feelings and adds a racy element as the nude Miley Cyrus sings and rides the wrecking ball. Maybe in any other year, the Cyrus video would be considered the overwhelming favorite. This year for the MMVA International Video of the Year – Artist we have fun and catchy matched up against raw and racy. The Miley Cyrus legion of fans will be pushing the raw and racy button when they cast their MMVA vote on their laptops and mobile devices.

Awards shows are supposed to be a celebration of achievement. For the MMVAs, the show is a flat-out celebration. Parts of Toronto, Ontario will be shut down as the celebration unfolds. The party will really rock out with Miley Cyrus fans if their efforts manage to beat Happy for the International Video MMVA. Even if unsuccessful, the Cyrus fans in attendance can still show their spirit and have a great time. Everyone else will be happy no matter what the result.

Seriously. You clearly have not seen the votes on twitter. If you think that ‘s the reason miles deserves to win

People actually LIKE Happy. People watched hers because she’s naked. Kinda a little difference there.
