The View: Rosie O’Donnell Signed to Co-Host With Whoopi Goldberg

The View

Rosie O’Donnell has signed a deal to be one of the co-hosts of The View, joining Whoopi Goldberg after Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd were let go from the show. Earlier on Tuesday, TMZ reported that O’Donnell was close to signing. By the end of Monday, it appears that she closed the deal and has signed on the dotted line.

According to a source with inside information, Rosie O’Donnell, 52, “will get a major say [in her co-hosts].”

ABC execs are reportedly still searching for a third co-host, who will most likely be a conservative. Abby Huntsman or Margaret Hoover, according to the TMZ source, are two of the most likely choices to join Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell as the third co-host on The View.

Huntsman and Hoover, according to ET Online, are just two of the many choices that ABC execs are considering. Another possibility is Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice Presidential candidate and Fox News commentator.

The View probably will make an official announcement about the hiring of Rosie O’Donnell as a new co-host either on July 15 or July 16 at the Television Critics Association’s (TCA) upfront presentation, according to a report by Hollywood Life.  The View: Rosie O'Donnell Signed to Co-host With Whoopi Goldberg

Rosie O’Donnell previously co-hosted The View from 2006 through 2007, but she did not finish her contract out because she did not along well with one of her other co-hosts, conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck. O’Donnell and Hasselbeck rarely agreed on anything.

The reason that O’Donnell left The View, she later explained to Oprah Winfrey, was both that she “didn’t have the control” that she was used to, and “the executive producer and I did not gel.” That basically means that she and Hasselbeck were like oil and water.

Seven years later, in February of this year, Rosie O’Donnell again appeared on The View on ABC, but this time, as a guest. O’Donnell was asked back by Barbara Walters, the creator of The View. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who is now a Fox News host, was not a co-host of the show at the time. The audience gave O’Donnell a standing ovation.

It is doubtful that Sarah Palin will be the third co-host on the popular daytime talk show. If Rosie O’Donnell had a difficult time getting along with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, she would likely blow out a blood vessel if she was asked to sit next to Sarah Palin. Some of the execs at ABC also believe that Sarah Palin’s political viewpoints might be “too polarizing,” according to a report by KMOV.

The contract that Rosie O’Donnell signed on Monday to join Whoopi Goldberg as a co-host on The View on ABC is reportedly a “one year, seven-figure deal.” Also, O’Donnell is reportedly demanding to have input as to who any other co-hosts will be. Another stipulation that O’Donnell has demanded, according to other sources, is that she will not work with a co-host who is a reality star.

Rosie O’Donnell has signed to be a co-host of the popular ABC series The View, according to several sources, joining the sole remaining co-host, Whoopi Goldberg. O’Donnell’s contract is only for a year, but she will reportedly have a big say as to who any other co-hosts will be. Rosie O’Donnell is, herself, a controversial figure to many people, especially to a number of Republicans. ABC is continuing the search for at least one other cast member to add as the third co-host of The View.

Love love love Whoppi. Not thrilled at all about Rosie at all. Sarah Palin is not a great choice at all. She is all in for herself and no one else. Please do not add men to this show as in my opinion this is the Best Women’s show there is. All other shows are just men or men and women. Barbara Walters knows this and should stick with all women. Please bring some intelligent, knowledgeable and co-hosts that can mix well with Whoppi the best Co – Host since Barbara Walters which is high praise. Thank you for considering my opinion and thoughts.

I has just about given up the the View between its new hosts and realty shows topics. I was excited to hear Sherri and Jenny were leaving. Until I heard that Rosie O’Donnell is coming back. You’ve got to be kidding me. I cannot stand her and seeing her with Whoopie just doesn’t jive. Whoopie was all they had left but you could see her being forced to act like she enjoys these new dull boring insignificant topics . And how often do they even have a decent guest on the show anymore? I am done with the view now. Kelly and Michael show has it all!

Hmmmm…I don’t know about this. I’d be happier to see them moving forward as opposed to going backwards. If the HAD to go that route, I’d rather have Joy back. She was liberal but not so emotional as Rosie. That part of Rosie annoys me.
