Horror Film 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Going to Be Remade

The horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer is going to be remade almost 20 years after it was first released. The new movie is expected to show up in theaters sometime in 2016 and scary flick fans can rejoice. The news was released when Sony announced it was going to reboot the teenage slasher film. The studio had stated that they selected Mike Flanagan to be both director and writer but he apparently has a bit of an issue with the director part but that is discussed farther down in this article.

He just in recent times undertook the Karen Gillan horror film Oculus. That movie ended up earning over $40 million internationally while only on a production budget of $5 million. With that kind of success, it only holds to reason Sony would be both wanting and expecting a parallel outcome with the “I Know” do over. It is fairly well known that scary films do not usually break any kind of box office records; they do succeed in bringing in quite a bit of money due to the fact they are usually a lot less of any kind of investment.

The very first I Know What You Did Last Summer ended up grossing around $125 million globally and had two sequels created from it but neither had very much success. In fact the third was released straight to video. Neal Moritz has been hired on as producer to the new movie because he produced the first movie.

The film’s story-line is centered around a group of teenagers who, by accident, run over a pedestrian and instead of informing anyone of what they have done, they choose to hide the body. That act is what comes back to haunt each of them. It appears in the shape of a letter that shocking says on it, “I know what you did last summer.” After that there are the customary layers of gore and violence with lots of blood.

The original flick came out back in the mid 1990’s and stared Sarah Michele Geller, Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze Jr. The first sequel was filmed just the next year. Besides Flanagan and Moritz, Jeff Howard will also be working on the brand new version

Even though numerous media sources have stated that Flanagan would also be in a production position along with Moritz in the upcoming film, he has stated on his personal Twitter account that he is only writing for the movie, nothing else.

The tweet he sent out supposedly read that he was extremely happy to be writing a brand new I Know What You Did Last Summer but he added that he was not producing or directing in any fashion.

Media sources have stated that this 2016 movie will be taken from the novel written back in 1973, which had the very same name. It was by author Lois Duncan. The film in 1997 had a gang of teens being stalked by a murderer after they tried to cover up their participation in a deadly car accident as was stated above.

Actors Anne Heche and Johnny Galecki both had supporting roles in the first movie. The second sequel, which came out in 1998, called I Still Know What You Did Last Summer had Hewitt returning along with Prinze as they resumed their roles alongside new cast members.

It was then in 2006 that the third movie was released and that sequel was sent straight to DVD. It had the title I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer when released and set up a completely new storyline and did not have any of the first two films cast members. I Know What You Did Last Summer is going to be remade almost 20 years after it was first released.
