2015 Oscars to be Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris

Earlier today followers of Neil Patrick Harris on Twitter got a surprising announcement via video. It was Neil Patrick Harris filming himself, stating, in a round-about way that he would be hosting the 2015 Oscars. The video below opens up with him on the phone saying the simple phrase “I’m In,” as he looks down at a list and circles the words “Host the Oscars.”

That’s right! The fun-loving, performer/television star/author of a new book will be hosting the 2015 Oscars, ran every year on ABC Network. This year the Oscars will be aired on February 15, 2015 and many great predictions have been made about who will take home the awards, as well as, who will be performing. However, many are still delightfully surprised to learn that Harris will be hosting the event.

With his eclectic personality Harris has been the love of TV since his acting career started. His biggest role being his continuous performance as Barney on the hit TV show How I Met Your Mother, in he which he played along stars like Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders, and Josh Radnor. He was also currently staring in the new show, Gone Girl, where he plays the supposedly creepy, ex-boyfriend, Desi Collings. NPH was even in the recent hit created by the comedic Seth MacFarlane, A Million Ways to Die in the West, where he played Foy, the handsome guy with a mustache.

Not only has Harris starred in a ton of movies, he has also previously won many awards for his performances. He won four Primetime Emmy’s at The Tony Awards for various performances, though he has been nominated several times, he won three People’s Choice Awards, and three Young Artist Awards. He has been nominated several times for Golden Globe Awards, Academy Awards, and many others.

Though his acting career has been successful, NPH is also no stranger to the hosting business. He has previously hosted The Emmy Awards twice and he has hosted The Tony Awards four times. Though his performances have always been viewed by fans as outstanding, NPH says that this is truly his biggest honor and thrill to be asked to host the Academy Awards. Neil has been a part of the Academy Awards for the past several years, even being given the opening numbers in some cases. But even being part of the show just was not enough, as he stated that he was always in awe of the hosts of the show as he grew up watching and that hosting this event was truly on his bucket list.

Other things listed on the “bucket list” included in his videos were things like meet the president, get married have children, jump out of a plane, and write a book, all of which Harris has done, but now he will get the chance to check off the final item on his long list; he will get the chance to host the Academy Awards in 2015.

The Oscars will take place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre at 4 p.m. ET, where you can expect to see a great performance from Neil Patrick Harris, who will be up front and center. Last year’s Oscars hosted by Ellen DeGeneres brought in 43.7 million views, the highest number since 2000. This years NPH fans will get a chance to see if Harris can beat those numbers and create for audiences everywhere, a phenomenal performance.
