Alexander Wang Launches H&M Collection to Missy Elliott Beats

Alexander Wang launches his new H&M collection to a soundtrack of cool beats provided by Missy Elliott. The collaborative partnership between Wang and H&M was announced at April’s Coachella Valley Music Festival and the world has sat on the edge of its seat waiting to preview the fashion collection for the last six months. The edgy, sport-driven line is now ready to be viewed by the world and will be ready to wear on Nov. 6, 2014.

Until the release of the new collection, the way in which Wang was going to convert his dramatically high fashion style to appeal to and work with mass market manufacturing was a bit of a mystery. In his globally eclectic fashion, Wang has managed to stay true to his sporty standard and incorporate a contemporary feel that works well for everyone. When talking about the new collection just before the runway debut, he joked about the fact that he is not an athlete himself and said that he goes to the gym minimally even though he often wears sweat pants and is always seen sporting a track jacket.

Any time a fashion show is set to a beat provided by Missy Elliott, everyone knows the party has just begun, and such was the case at Wang’s fashion show where he launches his new H&M collection. Fans, friends, and guests at the H&M debut designs fashion show included Solange Knowles, Mary J. Blige, Jessica Chastain, and Sofía Sanchez Barrenechea.

As Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott took to the stage, the audience was pumped, but Elliott was on pause until her one demand was met. Elliott cut off the DJ as well as her dancers and coaxed the crowd to put away their phones. They complied and got into the groove of her throwback tunes and danced to classic songs such as Lose Control and Get Ur Freak On.

A native of San Francisco, Wang migrated to New York to study fashion in 2005 and, after his second year, he left Parsons School of Design in order to establish his own fashion label. Today, at the young age of 30, he has taken casual chic to a level of cool urban ideology and won over fashionable fans all around the globe. Wang has three flagship locations, his Alexander Wang fashion label, and has now crossed over into developing accessories, menswear, and women’s fashions for department stores and leading boutique shops worldwide.

Although Wang considers fashion a “tricky” and “fickle industry,” he says that he is proud of all of the friendships he has been able to develop during his process of becoming. He says that one of the most difficult things to do is to build and maintain relationships with people but that is necessary in the balance of his private life. Wang advises others who want to be successful in the fashion industry to come out and be unafraid of telling their story in their own way. He says that it is critical to show that one is not afraid to create his or her own path.

It turns out that he is quite the creator when it comes to throwing a good party and every good party is always set to the tune of great music. The launch of Wang’s new H&M line was no exception as the show reverberated with the sound waves of Missy Elliott beats and showcased a fashion collection that clearly shows the designer is now and will be for some time a vital staple of fashion pop culture.
