Actor Jason Momoa of Game of Thrones fame has bought a former GM plant and plans on turning it into a brewery, great news for the long-suffering city of Detroit. Momoa was born in Honolulu, Hawai,i to artist parents, his mother a photographer and his father a painter. His first successful role was in 1989 on what came to be known as Baywatch Hawaii. He did not pursue acting as a full-time career after the end of the show, instead spending some time traveling. He finally landed in Los Angeles where he began pursuing an acting career seriously.

Momoa had a series of popular shows before he began appearing in the Game of Thrones in 2011, playing Khal Drogo. Now this acclaimed actor is setting his sights on Michigan, where he will showcase his love of beer by opening his own brewery. The star bought a 9,000 square foot building that is 100 years old, and this is where the magic will happen.  He said during an interview that the brewery will also boast an eatery, however, what kind of food is not known at this time.

Game of ThronesLast month Mamoa spent some time promoting a movie he wrote, produced, directed and starred in. Road to Paloma is about revenge for the rape and murder of a native American woman, and Momoa plays the son who extracts that revenge. The Game of Thrones star has his own production company where he produced a commercial for a collaboration from two breweries. He stated that one of those breweries, New Holland brewing company in Michigan, is the only place he liked every single beer. This was to be the beginning of a journey for him to find the perfect location to open his own place where he could brew all the beers he likes the best. That place turned out to be in the same state as his favorite New Holland Brewing Company.

Momoa is becoming a jack of all trades. He is a very successful actor, filmmaker and director, and shows no signs of slowing down. He can add brew master to this impressive list of accomplishments in the very near future. During recent interviews he stated that Guinness is his favorite beer, and expounds on the virtues of wheat beer, excluding Blue Moon from that category of “great” beer. The towering star is far from Game of Thrones’ Drogo, and is as laid back as they come. However, anyone that meets him is surprised to see that he is as big as his life on-screen. At a towering six feet four inches it is no wonder he got such roles as Drago.  He can and will talk about everything from his production company, Pride of Gypsies, to what is the best beer, from Dragon’s Milk to Monkey King. He even will let one know what Drago’s type of beer might be, and that is C-note. From Game of Thrones to the motor city, Mamoa is out promoting his newest movie, but is always willing to talk beer. Detroiters look forward to this newest of breweries and welcoming Jason Mamoa to the city.
