Gough Whitlam, the former Australian Prime Minister from 1972 to 1975, passed on earlier this morning. According to his four children: Catherine, Stephen, Nicholas and Antony, he is to have “a private cremation and a public memorial service.”
Known for pushing a political system to its limits, he has inspired leagues of individuals and is historically one of the pivotal characters in the 1975 Australian constitutional crisis often recognized as the Dismissal.
