A driver targeting pedestrians who shouted “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is great,” in Arabic in Dijon, France, at various locations around the city, was arrested by the police. According to a report by BBC News and French media sources, the driver injured 11 people, two of them suffering serious injuries.
A source who is reportedly close to the investigation has revealed that the man who was arrested appeared to be “imbalanced,” and added that he “had been in a psychiatric hospital.”
This latest incident involving people who have shouted “God is great,” before committing acts of violence follows closely on the heels of Saturday’s shooting by French police of a man who attacked the three officers wielding a knife in Joue-les-Tours. The injuries sustained by the gunfire killed the man.
The arrest of the driver in Dijon, France, on Sunday was made following the driver’s purposeful injuring of pedestrians by driving into them. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
