Tom Hardy No Longer In ‘Suicide Squad’

Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy is no longer in Suicide Squad. He decided to drop out of the project, leaving the movie with no Rick Flagg. However, there are replacements being eyed up, with one of those being Jake Gyllenhaal.

The Dark Knight Rises actor was a relatively unknown face a number of years ago. However, his impressive portrayal of Bane and his upcoming performance in Mad Max has put him on the list of actors to watch out for. According to his rep, his schedule has become so tight that he has had to say no to a number of interesting roles.

A number of big names have been linked to the Suicide Squad adaptation, set for release in August 2016. Will Smith and Jared Leto have already been named as Deadshot and the Joker respectively, with Margo Robbie as Harley Quinn. Hardy was supposed to play Rick Flagg, but that is now possibly going to Gyllenhaal, if he agrees.

It has been unfortunate, and is due to a current movie overrunning. He is currently filming The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio, the next movie from Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu. Inarritu is responsible for the latest Oscar nominee Birdman. Hardy is also currently promoting upcoming movie Mad Max: Fury Road.

Hardy has had to say he is no longer doing Suicide Squad. The movie follows the villains of DC Comics, as they learn they need to become heroes. It will be a different take in the superhero franchise for movies, and follows the success of a number of superhero movies, especially in the Marvel fandom.

The Suicide Squad is just one of the push for Warner Brothers to get more DC Comic movies out there. The next five years already has a number of movies coming up, with Wonder Woman and Batman vs. Superman both coming up very soon.

Warner Brothers is banking on the success of Marvel, which saw benefits from the Avengers franchise as well as the standalone hero movies. One series that Warner Brothers is focusing on is the Justice League series, and movies are planned for 2017 and 2019. There is also hope that standalone movies of the Justice League of America will be popular, with Aquaman, The Flash and a Green Lantern reboot being promised before 2020.

Some of the names for the upcoming movies have been announced. However, there is still time for some of them to leave. Hardy has been the first to step down from the role he was supposed to play. He would have played the leader of the darker side of the heroes.

While his filming is currently overrunning, his promotion schedule has also caused some issues. The filming for Suicide Squad is scheduled to start in the middle of April, but Mad Max: Fury Road opens in movie theaters on May 15. He will have a tight promotion schedule, and that will cut into the time he has to film for the hero movie. It has led to the only decision for Hardy, and that is to no longer do Suicide Squad and give the role to someone else.
