Cate Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton, added to their growing family by adopting a baby daughter. A spokeswoman for the Blue Jasmine actress confirmed the adoption on Friday. She and her husband already had three sons, Ignatius, 6; Roman, 10; and Dashiell, 13. The name of their baby daughter is Edith Vivian Patricia Upton.

Cate Blanchett, 45, is one of the stars of the upcoming Disney live action movie, Cinderella. In 2014, Blanchett won her second Academy Award for Best Actress with her role as Jasmine in the Woody Allen-directed Blue Jasmine. The movie also stars Rebecca Hall, Alec Baldwin and Louis C.K.

When Cate Blanchett spoke at the Academy Awards voicing her support of Woody Allen, she drew criticism from many people who disapprove of Woody Allen’s personal life and treatment of Mia Farrow, who he had a 12-year-long romantic relationship with, and adopted stepdaughter, Soon-Yi Previn, who Allen married. She became his third wife in 1997.

Cate Blanchett’s husband, Andrew Upton, is a director in his own right, though he has directed mostly plays. He and Cate Blanchett formed their own production company, Dirty Films, and through the company Upton has directed the short film Bangers that was released in 1999 and the feature film Little Fish, from 2006.

No further details will be released, according to Cate Blanchett’s publicist, Stephanie Gonzalez. However, several sources have revealed that Blanchett and Andrew Upton adopted their baby daughter in the U.S. and they flew back to their home in Australia with Edith on Wednesday.

In Sydney on Saturday, outside of their home, Andrew Upton said to a reporter from The Daily Telegraph that he and wife, Cate Blanchett, were “thrilled” to be welcoming the new addition to their family. Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, who is an adoption advocate, offered their congratulations to Upton and Cate Blanchett.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have two children that were both adopted, their son Oscar Maximilian who is 14 and daughter Ava Eliot, who is nine. They decided to adopt children of mixed races, because “we always felt that where the need is, is where we’ll go.”

The Australian Women’s Weekly was the first media source credited with having broken the news about Cate Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton’s adoption of their baby daughter in the U.S. Their daughter’s name was first reported to be “Vivian,” but the couple later decided that and Patricia would be her middle names and Edith would be her first name.

Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton’s son Roman’s middle name is “Robert,” named after Blanchett’s brother and her father. Reportedly, their son, Dashiell, was named in honor of the American author of detective novels, Dashiell Hammett. It has not been yet revealed if their baby daughter, Edith Vivian Patricia Upton, has been named after anyone.

The adoption of their baby daughter was a big step in the lives of actress Cate Blanchett and her husband, director Andrew Upton. They have been married for 17 years, and felt it was time to add a daughter to their happy family. The staff of Guardian Liberty Voice wishes to congratulate Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton on the new addition to their family.
