Jimmy Fallon

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this Thursday, March 31, the episode was packed with a lot of fun and entertainment with Fallon and his guests, actor Ethan Hawke from Cymbeline and Willie and Korie Robertson, stars of the TV series, Duck Dynasty. Ethan Hawke and Fallon played their guitars and sang together later in the show. Alt-J was the musical guest on the Tonight Show.

As the Tonight Show commenced, host Jimmy Fallon walked out onto the stage to thunderous applause and a standing ovation. He greeted his audience, and then did his monologue, joking about people and events in today’s news. For example, Fallon said that “The White House just announced that President Obama will be attending a summit in Kenya.” Fallon made a joke about Obama almost slipping up and saying that he had been “born in Kenya.”

Jimmy Fallon then showed a clip of Vice President Biden talking about going to the YMCA when he was younger, and everybody walked around naked. Then, Fallon mentioned that “Some parents are embracing a new approach to ‘The Talk,’ going with the approach that sex is a comedy, rather than the tragedy that it really is.”

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon said that marijuana is twice as strong as it was 20 years ago. Then, Fallon was played to his desk, and said that Pharrell will be on tomorrow, Michelle Obama on Thursday. He said that tonight’s guests would be actor Ethan Hawke, Willie and Korie Robertson, and musical guest, Alt-J. He then talked about his father-in-law having served in the Marine Corps, and showed a black-and-white photo of him.

Then, Fallon mentioned having been traveling in London, and a salesperson showed him a watch that was from a man who was ejected from a plane. Host Jimmy Fallon told the salesman that his father-in-law ejected from a plane and survived, and Fallon was sent a special tie.

Jimmy Fallon related the story of his father-in-law ejecting over the Mojave Desert. He kept the rip cord from the parachute. Fallon showed the watch with the red band, which he had with him, and called his father-in-law up onto the stage, and gave him the watch, with his nickname, Cosmo, engraved on it. After that, the Tonight Show went to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Fallon talked about this weekend and the Final four. He said “It’s time for ‘Puppy Predictors 2015: Final Four Edition.’ Here’s how it works: We have 7 puppies and four bowls of kibble. Whichever bowl gets the most puppies eating from it will be the team that wins.” There were briefly two puppies eating from the Wisconsin bowl, then there were two at the Michigan State bowl. Eventually, three puppies were eating from the Michigan State bowl, so Fallon said that would be the winning team.

Returning from another break, host Jimmy Fallon introduced Ethan Hawke. They talked about when they last met each other, on the street, and Fallon was wearing a special leather jacket with the words “Saturday Night Live” written on both the back and front of the jacket.

They talked about Hawke’s movie, Dead Poet’s Society, and Ethan said “I got to play that part as my first experience and you can imagine the influence that had on me.” He thanked Fallon for having done such a great and moving tribute to Robin Williams, who had also starred in the movie.

They then talked about the movie Boyhood. “That movie just surpassed our wildest expectations,” Hawke said.

“You kept this a secret from me for 12 years. I thought that you were my friend,” Fallon told him.

Ethan Hawke said that his next movie will be a documentary that he filmed. It is about a piano instructor. Fallon said that Ethan “captured his quirkiness.” Fallon said that in the film, the piano instructor, who was 88 and had walked away from a lot of fame, played various Steinway pianos in a store, then said about one “That is beautiful.”

Fallon then played a clip from the movie, Seymour: An Introduction. It looks like it will be a fascinating portrayal of a remarkable person. The Tonight Show headed to yet another commercial break.

When the Tonight Show came back on, host Jimmy Fallon and Ethan Hawke were still hanging out. Fallon said that “bedtime can be tough” when it comes to young children. Ethan said “Have you ever tried to sing lullaby song like Bob Dylan?”

Fallon said “no.” They both had their guitars, and Ethan sang Rock a Bye Baby as Bob Dylan. Then, Jimmy Fallon sang Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star as Bob Dylan.

“You have to bring it down,” Ethan said. He demonstrated, by singing Hush, Little Baby. It was pretty AMAZING! Yet more commercials ensued….

After the commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced Willie and Korie Robertson. Among other topics, they mentioned that a musical was being made based on Duck Dynasty and it was also based on a book they wrote, and called The Duck Commander Family Musical.

Fallon said it was the first time that he had Korie on. He asked Willie how Uncle Si was, and he said that he is “doing okay.” Fallon mentioned “You just celebrated your anniversary, right? Twenty-three years,” and Willie said “That’s right.” Jimmy Fallon showed a photo from their wedding, and Willie did not have a beard then.

“Where did you guys meet? do you remember?”

Korie said that it was in Summer Camp in third grade, and she even wrote down that she “met a cute boy” on the hike. Willie said he tried to impress her by “busting out the ceiling tiles” in his room.

Then, Fallon showed a photo of the actors who will be playing Willie and Korie. Willie said “it was weird” to see other people playing them. Willie had to coach the actors how to speak like he and the other Robertsons said things, like using “dad gum” and other expressions unique to the series Duck Dynasty.

More commercials followed, then the Grammy-nominated band, Alt-J, took the stage of the Tonight Show and performed the song Every Other Freckle from the album This Is All Yours. The record is blue-colored, and the song is a pretty cool one. Alt-J’s “album” is actually just one long song, but it sounded terrific, nevertheless.

The Tonight Show ended, with host Jimmy Fallon thanking all of his guests and giving his audience members high-fives. Fallon’s guests, the incredible actor, Ethan Hawke, and the Duck Dynasty stars, Willie and his wife, Korie Robertson, made for a terrific Tuesday night episode of the Tonight Show. Alt-J, performing Every Other Freckle, was like the proverbial icing on the cake, topping off the show.
