Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin is taking time from writing the sixth installment in the series A Song of Ice and Fire to begin writing a new series for HBO titled Captain Cosmos. Fans of the Game of Thrones may not be too happy that the writer is taking time to write another series, before episode six in the book version of the series is even finished. The writer mentioned that he is not going to slack off of his commitments to write Winds of Winter, but that he is in fact clearing his schedule in order to make the time to write the next installment. It is being said that the new show will not take up a lot of the writer’s time.

Captain Cosmos is a story about a science fiction television writer in the late 40’s who writes what others would never dare to touch during the early days of television. There is not much news about the show except that Michael Cassutt of Z Nation fame will write the pilot.

There is a new segment of Winds of Winter posted on Martin’s website. Fans may not be able to read the next installment in its entirety but they can at least read the first two chapters on the website. Season five of the Game of Thrones is set to air on April 12, 2015 and may very well wrap up before Martin writes the sixth book. There is no word yet if the book will delay the filming of season six or if writers will continue to write a sixth season without waiting for Martin.

Martin began writing at an early age and would sell short stories to his friends at school for pennies. Martin’s first professional sale was in 1970 for a magazine called Galaxy. Martin worked for the television show The Twilight Zone in the 80’s and also the show Beauty and the Beast. The show based off of his popular series of novels Game of Thrones has been awarded the title of most watched show in HBO history. His fans are anxiously anticipating the sixth novel in the series titled the Winds of Winter. There are hopes that the new sci-fi series for HBO will be as much of a success as Game of Thrones.

HBO has not yet formally announced the new show Captain Cosmos, which takes place in 1949 at the dawn of the age of television. The main character does not yet have a name, and it is rumored that the name of the show may very well change before the pilot finally airs. Science fiction was a popular genre in the beginning of television. The space race was not quite in full force, with many television shows and made for television movies dealing with aliens and space explorers. One such show, called Captain Video aired from 1949 to 1955. At its peak, the showed could claim up to 3.5 million viewers a week, which was a large audience for the time.

The new show for HBO has not been officially announced, so there is no air date as of yet. However, Game of Thrones season five will air this month, and many are wondering what will become of Tyrion and Arya and other characters that viewers have become attached to. There is no word about what to expect in the upcoming season, but viewers will find out on April 12, 2015
